This is a serious problem I've been having ever since I was in my teens and when I was diagnosed with bipolar. My panic/anxiety attacks are horrible and it's slowly getting worse. Do any of you guys have it? How do you deal with it? Do you rely on medication to help you? Although my life was much more stressful years ago because of a severe back injury, my mental state has somewhat taken its toll on me. Before I was dealing with a lot of psychical pain, but now it's more in the brain.

I can't describe how frightening it is. My whole body would freeze, my heart beats like crazy, and I get a lot of racing thoughts. Worst than that, there's this awful debilitating feeling that swarms my entire body. I even had one last night on a camping trip. I was scared out my mind and was sent home. I couldn't sleep because of the hard floor and that was the trigger itself because at one time, I had a car accident 3 months ago. I was in the hospital for lack of sleep and really bad stress.

One of the things that helped me with anxiety is exercising (power yoga, weight lifting, running) talking to family and friends, and of course nofap :D Anyway, enough about me. If anyone had anxiety attacks, let me know your thoughts. It would would be great to hear your opinions, concerns, etc. about this issue. And if anyone who hasn't had any panic attacks, please share your thoughts as well.

You should try getting a prescription for the drug Propranolol … its a "beta-blocker" blood pressure med, has no addictive psychological effect whatsoever. Basically it blocks adrenaline in he body. It's used a lot by musicians and performers for stage fright (which is basically like a panic attack) and I use it for the same. I've also heard of it being prescribed for panic attacks.

I have been dealing with panic attacks since I was in the 8th grade, I have developed anxiety and social anxiety as well within the last 3 years. Some days are worse that others and some days are better. However I have found a way to cope and control my anxiety and panic attacks at least to a certain extent. And although I am not 100 percent cured It has helped me out tremendously and I am starting to get ahold of myself.

I hope this helps somebody out there out because it is something I have wished I could change for nearly 10 years.

    Take a look at anxiousreview.com

It is an excellent read and was very helpful to me :)

  4. I have anxiety problems. I've cut down my caffeine massively and that's had an effect. I meditate and exercise and both of those have positive effects too.

    Good luck, it's a bastard!

Sorry to hear about your panic attacks. There are extremely challenging. I have panic disorder, bipolar and other. Panic attacks do shake to your core. It is a terrible experience that can sneak up on you and destroy your self confidence. It feels physical and real, but it is important to gently realize that it is all in our minds. There is typically no outside threat. What helped/s me:
    1. Check with a doctor specifically about panic disorder, which can be related but separate from other conditions.
    2. Meds work for some and not for others, but be honest with your doctor what you are taking. I used to lie about taking to avoid criticism.
    3. Keep hydrated with lots of water, avoid caffeine and sugar.
    4. Exercise, as you said. Learning a breathing routine like Pranayama or Tai Chi.
    5. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a way to watch and adapt your thoughts.
    6. Get a support network, nofap and others.
    7. Practice small victories. I went from managing many people to having severe social anxiety. But I took small steps and rebuilt my confidence.
    8. No PMO. I used this extensively to soothe and it wound up reducing me to not wanting to get out of bed.
    9. Reduce self-judgement. What is past, is past.
    10. During an attack, try to realize it's in your head. Breathe, drink water, call a friend, watch a pre-determined video which inspires or makes you laugh
Good luck and take care! We can work to overcome our anxieties.

Most of the things you said on your post are some of what I'm doing right now. I don't think I have an anxiety disorder because from what I heard, it's spontaneous and happens here and there almost everyday. Once in a while when I get stressed out due to lack of sleep or something traumatic, the anxiety attack would come early or a few days later. I had the worst anxiety attack of my life 3 months ago because of the car accident. It wasn't even severe and I can't even figure out why it was that bad. However, my plan is to seriously prevent these attacks. One of them is to not rely so much on sleep medication; I think that's the biggest issue because I can't go to sleep without it. And of course, keep doing everything I've been doing. But thanks for your help man.

Accidents can have a lasting effect, even if they are not major. They are still a shock or trauma to your system. I had a car accident also a few years ago, and I've never really thought about it until now, but maybe some of my anxiety stuff started then. Yes, sleep medication is tough. I take something too and have been trying to wean off of it slowly. Best of luck to you and congrats on you making your goal and your continued success!

Thanks a lot for your comments guys. I really appreciate it and it puts me at ease knowing that I'm not the only one dealing with this. I just fear that these anxiety attacks might get worse, but like Aivarezo said, only time will tell. There can still be progress and I think these anxiety attacks can and will be managed. @Markguy I know how scary car accidents can be. This was technically my 2nd one, although I almost crashed into an 18 wheeler 2 years ago on a snowy hill. I pressed on the brakes and my dad was there. That was extremely traumatizing. Furthermore, I appreciate the fact that you're weaning off these sleep meds like I am. You shouldn't rely on them too much, but that's easier said than done. But I, however, believe exercise is the best medicine. Well for me at least. Your brain creates chemicals that help you sleep naturally, so I do as much as I can. The more the better. Anyway, that's the other side of my story, but thanks for sharing yours. Best of luck to you too!

Hey man, yeah I used to get them, but it has gotten a lot better. For me what's helping is no porn, no masterbation, taking vitamins, drinking organic green tea leaves, eating healthier, exercise and mediation even its just 10 min a day in a quit room to calm my mind. Theses things can only help. It is also good to confront what is bothering you if you know. Don't let fear stop you and hold you back. Do what makes you happy.

I don't know a lot about it, and have only had it on very few occasions, mostly in grad school, but this works for me, and my wife, to an extent:

Don't try to relax, because you'll fail, and that will make it worse. Don't try to convince yourself everything is okay, because it isn't; the panic attack is not okay, whether the cause is rational or not. Just try to remember that it will be okay.

I started having panic attacks about 15 years ago. I was always an anxious person before that, and after this started I fell into a deep depression for a short time. It was very difficult.
Anything would trigger an attack. Watching tv, getting in bed and closing my eyes, standing in a bus and feeling it vibrate.

The first attack I had happened in a restaurant, i was with my gf and we were just talking, and it just happened and freaked me out. This was the beginning of a long trip to hell. I had another big one in a movie theater. Needless to say, I avoided those as much as possible. I know how it feels, it's so overwhelming and you feel like you're going crazy.

Anyway, I took some medication for a while, but I can say that what helped me is facing it. Everytime i would close my eyes in bed i would have those attacks, and one day I just decided not to care and face it, and it somewhat stopped. I would still get very anxious and close to an attack when trying to go to a restaurant or see a movie, but I would either leave or it would pass, but I never got an actual attack there. After about a year, I had another one, which got me freaked out again, but it lasted just a week before I went back to "just" being anxious.

I don't think there are many ways to deal with this, you have to do what makes you panic. Go somewhere, stay as long as you can, and leave if you don't feel good, but never beat yourself up and enjoy the victory of having gone there or having done whatever. Slight medication can help at the beginning, but I avoided as much as possible.

Talking to people helps tremendously. Often times we hide that fact to people because we don't want to appear as wekk or weird. I used to fake getting a phone call in order to get out of wherever I was. And that was with close friends of mine. That's no use. Be upfront about it, not only people will understand, but also it'll relieve some stress from you, as hiding this and thinking about you'll manage to get out if you need to, adds to stress.

When you feel like something is coming, and if you can of course, talking to someone about random stuff, can help. When I had to go back to restaurants for work (couldn't avoid it) I felt very nervous, and close to panic at first. Getting into a conversation stopped that, since, well, it's in your head in the first place, so if you think about something else, you can't have an attack. Try to get out of your own head.

Anyway, it took time, but I'm cured. I sometimes feel anxious, especially if i'm tired, or if I have to do something I don't like. But it's nowhere near what it was before. I can go eat a juicy steak in a restaurant or see any movie I like without any stress, and I never had any attack for a very long time, so it's possible!

Feel free to hit me up if you need to talk.

Yeah but my symptoms are really odd. If I have a full on panic attack I get a huge surge of adrenaline through my arms into just my little fingers and the ones next to it. These fingers will twist up and freeze in place. It's bloody horrible.

I find a walk then a good cry sorts me out.

Sorry, not very helpful I know ^^

Wow, the fact that you said you were cured gave me a lot of hope. Like my back injury, it was only temporary. However, I did suffer for 3 years with excruciating pain before I found myself the right treatment. I'm guessing these panic attacks will subside in the future too. But I'm telling you, I'd rather have back pain than anxiety attacks. But like everything I've been through in my life, I always manage to survive through all the chaos. My resilience is a strength however. But like you, talking to people really helped me a lot and it's probably one of the first things I take advantage of. I do take medication, but rarely.

Anyway, your story has given me a lot of hope and motivation. If you can alleviate your anxiety attacks, why can't I? It's going to take some time, but I'm sure it will get better just like the back pain. And I'll take your consideration for the PM if I need it. Thanks man :)

Sorry to hear you all have to go through this.

I have had mild social anxiety my whole adult life. No panic attacks, but I have paranoia pretty bad. NoFap has helped some. Im still nowhere near 'normal', but I get the impression things are improving little by little.

Has Nofap helped you all with your anxiety?

@Diesel74 Not really, only a bunch of medication. I know it's not good to be on them for too long, but I really have no other choice. All I can do is to accept my responsibilities (bipolar disorder, family issues, work, school, back pain, etc.) Exercise is the only I enjoy so far and the only stress reliever that works. All I can do is to make life changes and hope for the best. It would be nice if I had my own freedom, live by myself, and not have to worry about all this crap. All this responsibility is giving me anxiety. I do have some mild social anxiety as well, but I'm also really shy too. Anyway, thanks for your help. Sorry for the delayed response. I haven't been on Nofap for a while.
