Kicked the MMORPG habit, now time to kick PM

    Hi,
Just thought I'd best introduce myself on here to make this all more formal in my mind!

This is a bit off-topic but for the gamers out there, I'd made the mistake of re-discovering Oldschool Runescape, and sure enough before long I was wasting way too many hours on there for someone in their 30s with plenty of IRL stuff to be doing. I managed to make a clean break from that at the start of this year (a New Years resolution that's actually stuck for once!)

Now I'm 4 months into that and being way more productive in all others aspects of life, it's time to quit the porn habit for good.

I'm looking to start with a 30 day PM challenge. I'm in a very loving long-term relationship (7+ years), so I hope this is as much for her benefit as it is mine. I don't think I've ever properly recorded streaks before so I doubt I've ever gone longer than a couple of weeks.

Having read the NoFap guides on re-booting, I feel a heck of a lot more confident attempting this time, being mindful of the chaser effect in particular.

I may start up a log thread as well once I'm a week or so in, but in the meantime I'm hoping to be fairly active on here for anyone just in need of an accountability partner or just to be a sounding board.

    Cheers.

    Welcome
Please, start studying carefully what's happening in your mind > https://oceanrecoverycentre.com/2016/07/the-ultimate-guide-to-overcoming-internet-porn-addiction/

First time without porn will be stressful , but if you resist , in some months you will feel reborn.

If the first times a person relapse easly, it's okay.
The streaks becomes even longer , day by day.
Don't porn anymore, it's better to struggle and at the last to relapse than to look at porn.
No more instagram pictures of models. No more erotic imagines , erotic stories or erotic asmr.

We should improve in all area of our life, just being dissatisfied or stressed makes us relapse.

An effective weapon to overcome urges and thoughts : mindfulness.
The brain will try to win you and to get some triggers for the seek of dopamine. Resist

If you need a concrete help you could install these porn blockers:

Thanks for that link, I feel like the more time I spend reading up on the science behind it the better prepared I will be.

First week has been ok, perhaps a little more restless than normal yesterday, but just taking it a day at a time.

  4. to break free of gaming is quite a thing dude. IT is really hard as it rewards the same spot in our brains as gambling addicts. I myself find it really hard to quit games.

Thanks, I find it's the grindy RPG in particular that I know I'm susceptible to. Something that's genuinely exhilarating to play in the moment like an FPS or racing game I find I can dip into and have a healthy relationship with but I think I will have to call it quits on Runescape for good. It's that breadcrumb trail of "ooh look you're close to this level, or this item", when there is literally 1000s of hours you could pour into it with no end to be happy about besides thinking "damn, well that was a lot of time wasted."

The sad thing I find is that there's so many streamers of these games you can find, who'll talk about the 10s or 100s of hours they've just spent grinding out some accomplishment, and then somehow justify it by saying "but I watched [x] boxset whilst doing it, so it wasn't that bad". Yes, yes it was! Just because you were watching TV at the same time doesn't make it a more productive use of your time! Rant over haha.
