For a start I want to quit pmo. I've been hooked since I was about 12 ( I'm in my 30s now) I've never had goals, not really a people person. I don't have my own home, I'm currently with family but soon be moving into a shared house. I have low self-esteem I quit at everything I do, I can't find my place in life. I feel like a teenager trapped in a adult body. Basically I'm a loser
I can recommend a great podcast . Jordan Peterson. The guys fantastic. It's not a book but give it a try.
Here are a couple of short philosophy books that you probably can find free online: The Enchiridion by Epictetus Meditations by Marcus Aurelius A Confession by Leo Tolstoy And if you really want some long and heavy reading: The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky
I completely agree. I also appreciate these stoic books. Have you read the Inner Citadel by Pierre Hadot? It is a great explanation and supplement to Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.
King warrior magician lover The way of the superior man The good life: a guide to stoic joy Meditations Psycho-cybernetics The Thrive Programme book
What I don't understand is, how do you manage to finish a book. Any book. I'd be too impatient for that. Do you guys actually finish them or just quit half way?
If it's a book that you're really into, you'll finish it. Turn your phone off and make time to read at least 10-20 pages a day. I find that when your brain is a mess from too much porn and social media – it's incredibly hard to read. I'm finding it easier to read the more I abstain from porn and other cheap dopamine hits. There's always audiobooks too...
Depends on the book for me, but usually finish them. I like audiobooks because I can walk and listen. Look up "habit stacking".
One book that I recently finished reading was Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins. It’s about this real life guy that completely changed his life around. (Going from 300 pounds to a Navy Seal/ultramarathon runner) It has some language in it, but if you don’t mind that then I’d say it’s a great story and it shows just how much people are capable of, even if they don’t know it.
Best thing you can do is cultivate genuine interest, and thats usually easiest by reading a book that is relevant to something you currently care about. For example, the book dune got a surge in popularity as the movie was coming out because a lot of people were probably interested in the book now that its this big movie. When you are actually interested, it becomes a bit easier to read each part of the book with curiosity instead of it feeling like a chore. Life changing books for me personally were atomic habits by james clear, the pmo SPAM REMOVED (spam code #001) - REPORT TO MODERATION(not the actual allen carr book but the pmo version, you can google it as this site blocks the name for some reason), can't hurt me by david goggins and bigger leaner stronger by michael matthews.
