Day 397! Well, if I would have to say anything I would say: Focus on the horizon. Meaning, don't focus on small daily steps, rather focus on the big goal instead—that will motivate you! You must visualize and feel (and I emphasize: really vividly see in your mind's eye and try to really feel) the end result and how good it will feel to be free from it for a year or more. Do mindfulness meditation, it trains you to catch your urges before you act on them, gives you space to make decisions, without it we just fall like dominos—trigger > reactive action—but mindfulness creates space between those—trigger > space > action—and in that space you can do something to stop. When you catch yourself in that space, change your focus on how painful it will feel to have relapsed, now and every day a year from now, 10 years from now, 50 years from now; a life wasted! Really make yourself feel the pain and focus on it vividly and feel it. That's what they call using a carrot and a stick.
So how do I practice mindfulness meditation? Is it different from regular meditation? Can you help me with this?
Mindfulness means to be aware of thoughts, images, feelings and sensory perceptions arising in the present moment. There is also concentration meditation, which has mindfulness component, but mainly focuses on training concentration; the goal is to focus and keep attention on one object, such as breath, while not entertaining any other thoughts, feelings, etc. Concentration meditation might be better for people who lack attention, but mindfulness is better for addictions. If you go to The Daily Meditation Challenge page, and scroll down, under the Meditation Methods, you will see links to different types of meditation suggestions you can do. But there are many, so I could not possibly linked to them all. If you wanna know which mindfulness meditation method is my favorite, then it is the Buddhist Vipassana (but of course you don't have to be a Buddhist to do it—I am not—works for training mindfulness just the same). There is a a playlist explaining how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL603BD0B03E12F5A1
