    The same way he used the 'eye plucking' example in His sermons... (BTW Jesus probably preached a sermon everyday of His 3 year ministry and probably only slightly adjusted His message depending on His crowd's origin) He wasn't suggesting SELF MUTILATION, but more the SERIOUSNESS of the sin involved... with lusting and adultery, the 1st sin involved is COVETING... we covet, then we act it out. We covet what we SEE, so CUT OFF the source of what we see before IT INVOLVES the "HAND" to carry it out.
