Is this part the addiction? I've been doing this since I was 15 and I always thought it was okay because it was for a good cause. Was I lying to myself?

Your brain is very clever, but you need to defeat it.

Personally, I wouldn't call it an addiction. It all really depends on your reason for doing NoFap.

Good point. I'm doing it reboot my brain, if that's why my brain is all mussed up in the first place. I would be okay fapping to fall asleep, but if it's going to screw with my progress, I'll suck it up and not do it.

That's what I had been doing too. Now night time is when the urges really hit me. It's rough--hang in there!

If anything, porn and unrealistic fantasizing are what many believe to be the true enemy.

Everyone has their own specific problems though.

I think only you can truly decide the best course of action for yourself.

read : "Your Brain On Porn"
    as i understand it:
there are two distinct neurotransmitters at play here:
    A) NOREPINEPHRINE and DOPAMINE are the "getting it UP", neurotransmitters of : wanting, arousal, seeking, chasing, LOOKING at porn, (especially fueled (and then DEPLETED) by high speed internet porn.

    B) DOPAMINE and ENDORPHINS are the "getting it OFF" neurotransmitters/hormones of : pleasure. these are essentially the body's own endogenous heroin/morphine. these make us feel GOOD and relaxed, and hence, SLEEPY.

i have FAPped to sleep often, FAPped when depressed, for a pick-me-up, and FAPped when mad (at wife, for example) to chill me out).

using FAP-induced endorphins to go to sleep (or whatever), is akin to drinking alcohol to go to sleep.
    its a drug, albeit endogenous.

any hormone or neurotransmitter receptor in the body (with probably NO exception) will experience the phenomenon of up-regulation, and down-regulation. this is the mechanism by which addiction develops.
in down regulation, if there is an abundance of a certain neurotransmitter, the body starts to decrease the number of receptors at which that neurotransmitter can function. thus, it takes more and more of said neurotransmitter, to achieve the same effect.

    anyways,
i would estimate the need to FAP to go to sleep IS an addiction,
but one which can be overcome.

and fortunately, as with most any addiction,
down-regulation can be reveresed, with abstinence.

get and read : "your brain on porn"
    it'll help a lot

I think you were lying to yourself, often times I PMO'ed at night time too. Could be the reason that insomnia is kicking in!
