Youtube somehow became full of shorts and other longer videos, but especially shorts that mostly consist out of content that is highy sexually provocative, therefore I decided not to visit this platform in a while. There are just too many triggers and I can't avoid these kind of videos, no matter how careful I am. Even if I directly type something in the search section and somehow get to my video that doesn't contain any of this crap, something filthy will inevitably pop up, if not in a video form, in the ad form. So refusing to use it is the best way I think...

I use Youtube still, but I do not browse it from the Home page or Shorts page, or Trending page, etc; I only browse it from the "youtube.com/feed/subscriptions" page (I have this bookmarked as my main landing page for the site), and an individual channel pages sometimes. And I only watch channels that I know are safe, such as all of my subscriptions—no random searches or clicking recommend videos from people you don't know.

I also use Unhook extension, it's an extension that you can add to your browser that let's you disable a lot of things, so there is no danger to stumble on something triggering by accident. For example you can disable all the recommended videos and the sidebar, you can also disable comment section, or Trending page, etc. It's a good extension, check it out.

I also use Adblock Plus extension to disable adds, cause indeed some ads can be triggering. But I also use Adblock Plus extension to disable all the video thumbnails, just right click on a thumbnail and press Block Element, this will leave the website and the video player fully functional, but will gets rid of all potential visual triggers in the thumbnails across the whole site. Like that I won't click a shorts video that has a thumbnail of impressively developed gluteus, because I won't see the thumbnail—it can't trigger you to click it if you don't even know it's there!

I also do the same on mobile, but you have to use the Kiwi Browser to use Unhook extension on mobile, and uBlock Origin for disabling thumbnails, instead of Adblock Plus (maybe you can do it with Adblcok, but I could not figure how, so I just use uBlock). But I recommend not watching Youtube on mobile, cause if you watch on PC only you tend to spend less time on it, which is good.

You have to set your own boundaries and follow them. My site looks like it's HTML based site from 1998, but it works for the purpose of avoiding triggers.

Youtube is trying to follow the recipe of tiktok, short videos that keep your attention for many seconds (instagram and snapchat already followed that recipe aswell, because it's trending). I use though because i still look for good entertainment (some old school movies, songs and many channels with a good sense of comedy).

When I was unemployed, I spent about 10 hours a day on YouTube.

Youtube is worse than porn. With porn at least it's over after O. Sites like Youtube you can plug yourself up to and waste unlimited amounts of time without reaching satisfaction. Since starting this road to beat porn addiction I've become more aware of dopamine addiction, but damn it's hard.

YouTube is worse than porn you say. It's like saying: Beer is worse than whiskey, of course yt is NOT worse than porn because obviously most of its content is good, on the other hand porn sites contain only porn stuff and are way worse than yt. Don't get it twisted man...

It depends I would say. For some people it's better to be a hard alcoholic than drinking a couple of beers every day, because realization will hit much faster. It's about what kind of addict you are. I've never been someone who daily spends large amounts of time on porn or though of it as time consuming. I can go one or two weeks without it without to much sweat. I don't really have the problem you describe about sexy videos and stuff like that. For me it's rather about losing control over it and using it as comfort when down.

It's not the content, it's that we could use our time for better things than watching cat videos for 10 hours. Personally I've always been prone to that kind of constant dopamine seeking in form video games and other things to the point where I didn't want to hang with friends even. But we all are different.
