It's the high you get, you need dopamine to feel good or feel alive
Previous activities that produce dopamine won't probably produce it again, because your brain has been rewired
So the only way your brain gets enough dopamine is from porn
    It's really fucked up.....

This is why we need to find natural dopamine. For instance, working hard and delaying gratification to enjoy the end result

I feel ya, when it feels like your brain only releases high doses of dopamine while viewing porn, it can feel fucked up and you may wonder if you will ever be able to release dopamine from your real hobbies or interests in life again.

I've been porn free for 116 days and haven't M&O during a week now and I can already feel a slight difference in both energy and focus. The more you avoid both porn and M&O, and instead doing things you enjoy in life your brain will heal some everyday because you keep it away from it's addiction and instead it begins to find some enjoyment for your real hobbies and interests again the more you do them.

This is how I see it and what I feel begins to happen in my life right now and It feels great even though it's a long way to go for my brain to completely heal from a 5 year porn addiction.

I hope you'll be able to experience this way as I do someday but it will take some strong determination to make it. Keep fighting the good fight!

True, I also observed cooking, doing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the house give dopamine when you're not getting it from porn

Nice! Even though I got a bit surprised that chores made your brain release dopamine. Maybe you enjoy cooking, cleaning, doing dishes and doing the laundry? Don't take it the wrong way because doing chores is very important as well and I'm happy that those things gives you a boost in dopamine. Wish my brain could release dopamine during cooking and other chores sometimes.

Things I do to make my brain release dopamine without porn or m&o is listen to music, playing video games, watching a movie or series and visit someone close to me for a nice time.

Is the brain not releasing any dopamine from video games or chores an example of desensitization happening?

  8. @Anonymous86

I'm sorry, but what do you mean with "desensitization"? It has to be something psychological I guess?

Is it that you don't feel any dopamine release while doing things you enjoy in life?

it's releasing but it won't last long
Me myself can't even watch some shows I enjoy watching before I know I just won't enjoy it

This is how I see it. Deep inside you really do enjoy the show you're watching but because of your addiction to porn your brain won't release as much dopamine while watching the show as it does watching porn, which will make the show less enjoyable for you. I'm certain that you will be able to enjoy that show more when your porn addiction starts to fade away.

This is exactly how I feel! Ugh.

  14. That's totally understandable! It's a terrible feeling when you don't enjoy things you really do enjoy in life just because of an crappy addiction. But you are able to change that to be able to enjoy other things in life, you just need a strong determination to get rid of it, and avoid to relapse as much as you can. I believe in you, bro! Keep fighting the good fight, it will make a huge difference and will totally be worth it.

This is why abstinence is beneficial your brain goes through cycles when you reaffirm dopamine signals those pathways are made stronger ie why addictive behaviours develop

yes everything is about dopamine , but you can train the brain to become less responsive to triggers

Uh....Yep. We (humanity) are only really beginning to study the importance of dopamine to our (humanity) existence.

Though we have figured out we can use porn to achieve a dopamine high, a dopamine high occuring naturally is why we seek sex and food. It is probably the most important motivational neurotransmitter we experience.

Dopamine promotes two of the most successful survival traits in the species, and not just humanity, but mammals and perhaps other forms of life: The seeking for and obtaining sex and food. Without that motivation hard wired, we would not exist. No one is having sex if it feels only as good as cutting your toenails.

Learning this and understanding it will be crucial to your recovery.

    Much Love.

  19. I also noticed when i abstain from pmo, i too get enjoyment from small things in life, which would not be possible if not abstaining from pmo.
I think junk food, P, and video games are the worst thing for dopamine spikes. We have here correlating practical information how this works in real life scenarios.
You also get more motivation for future plan and work, and you recover a lot faster if you don't achieve some of your goals initially.
The less PMO, the better results! However i think this doesn't apply for natural SX, since different chemical are released, that actually relaxes male brain. But, it needs to be done in moderation just like everything else.
