    Hi everyone!

I stumbled across this site late last night, shortly before going to bed after spending an unhealthy amount of time with porn during the day. I wasn't even looking for anything like NoFap, I just happened to stumble across a random link to the site. After spending some time checking out the information regarding porn addiction, and seeing many of the symptoms and effects in myself, I decided that I needed to do something about this in order to better myself. So here I am, starting out with day one of an involuntary (new girlfriend) "hard mode" 90 day reboot!

I guess I may as well introduce myself a bit further than just stating the obvious of why I'm here. I'm a 21 (almost 22!) year old college student majoring in Computer Science. Over the past couple of years, (starting my freshman year of college I think) I've gone from only occasionally using porn, to using it almost daily. Honestly I think some of it started out of boredom! It had gotten to the point where I came back to my apartment after my classes and spent far more time on porn of various sorts (both actual porn videos and erotica) than I did on my schoolwork.

The biggest thing that drew me to this site was its secular nature. I'm not a religious person, and so the one time I tried this in the past I failed partially because I didn't believe in the "moral evil" of masturbation and porn. I hadn't done much reading on the actual science behind porn addiction, and so coming here and being able to actually get information that wasn't filtered through a religious lens was refreshing and, I think, what gave me the will to get started with this new adventure.

What I hope to get out of this whole experience is a chance to start over. To get out of my cycle of bad moods. To not have to worry about my sexual performance if my girlfriend and I get to that point in our relationship. To have more time to focus on my school work, and to get my hobbies back. In short, this whole porn addiction thing has me more fucked up than expected.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask! I'm just happy to be here, and happy to be moving in a direction that will be healthier for myself.

Sounds good to me! To quote an old, wise man: "It's dangerous to go alone!"

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting. I'm determined to see this through, though. I really need to get my shit together hah. After a day of evaluating pretty much everything I've come to the realization that I needed this more than I thought!

Edit: Although I have to say, after day one of actively not engaging in anything its certainly interesting how often I used to just masturbate out of boredom.
Thanks! I'm definitely glad to be here, and excited to see where this adventure takes me.

Welcome to the forum. The use of computers have made life so much easier for people but for addicts it just became another method of feeding our addiction. What often starts off in innocent curiosity turns into something much more sinister. Addicts use porn to alter their moods from something negative into something positive. No one wants to feel bored and our brains have learned what an instantly make it feel better. That cycle takes us down into the depths of depravity. If you're looking for more sciencey articles then go over to www.yourbrainonporn.com. I hope you find success on your journey.

It's great that you are tackling this issue now. I am a secular person as well and would have no interest in a faith-based recovery program. I like that this approach does not require belief in a higher power, although I am sure people who have such beliefs would have no trouble incorporating them into their own recovery. Good luck going forward.
