What Lies Beneath by Breaking Benjamin

    Take a breath
    Hold it in
    Start a fight
    You won't win
    Had enough
    Let's begin
    Nevermind
    I don't care

    All in all
    You're no good
    You don't cry
    Like you should
    Let it go
    If you could
When love dies in the end

So I'll find what lies beneath
    Your sick twisted smile
    As I lie underneath
    Your cold jaded eyes
Now you turn the tide on me
    'Cause you're so unkind
    I will always be here
For the rest of my life

    Here we go
    Does it hurt
    Say goodbye
    to this world
    I will not
    Be undone
    Come to life
    It gets worse

    All in all
    You're no good
    You don't cry
    Like you should
    I'll be gone
    when you fall
    Your sad life
    Says it all

So I'll find what lies beneath
    Your sick twisted smile
    As I lie underneath
    Your cold jaded eyes
Now you turn the tide on me
    'Cause you're so unkind
    I will always be here
For the rest of my life

    Don't carry me under
    You're the devil in disguise
    God sing for the hopeless
I'm the one you left behind

So I'll find what lies beneath
    Your sick twisted smile
    As I lie underneath
    Your cold jaded eyes
Now you turn the tide on me
    'Cause you're so unkind
    I will always be here
For the rest of my life

Be careful of trance. Those give you trance, actually want to get more power, to control you later.

I can argue that all music with lyrics is trying to indoctrinate you into believing what the writers believe. Or that all mainstream music that's played on the radio is trying to indoctrinate you. Either of those assumptions would be equally as ignorant and silly.

Personally, a lot of the music here is not my cup of tea. That's ok, I'm not gonna scream at the rooftops that something doesn't have merit or that the musician had ill intent just because I'm not gung-ho about it. I just like seeing people passionate about music.

This is not a music critique thread. Please, I'm requesting politely that you keep your posts to either connecting with others on music that you like or posting songs. So, let's try to stay on topic here. I'm going to assume that your intent is good and not take this any further.

You say you miss those days,
but we did it right, right

    Quit the
    habit
    started
    smoking again

You say you miss those days,
but we did it right, right

    Quit the
    habit
    started
    smoking again

I was crying, you were laughing
Hit in the face, blood on the snow
    We were never happier
    We were never happier

You say you miss those days,
but we did it right, right
You say you miss those days,

My bad, sometimes I'm terrible at sensing whether people are joking or not. I feel like a dumbass now.

Are you joking? :p I would consider them a hardcore band. Orchid was active through the late 90's until 2001. They're worth checking out if you dig that song.

Gotta love NES soundtracks. There is this band called the Advantage that does NES covers as a full rock band. They are kick ass.

Nice! I'm glad to see classical music get some love on here.

I love classical music as well as choral music. It has an ethereal quality that never ceases to amaze me.

    English Translation:

Verb equal to God, the Almighty, our only hope,
    Eternal day of the earth and heavens;
We break the silence of the peaceful night,
    Divine Saviour, look upon us!

Fan the fire of your powerful grace upon us,
    So that all Hell may flee at the sound of your voice;
Shake off the sleep of a languishing soul,
    Who has forgotten your laws!

O Christ, be kind to these faithful people
Who have now gathered in thanks.
Listen to the chants they offer to your immortal glory,
And may they come away fulfilled with your gifts!

    FUCK YOU, DAD!!

    ---

Below is a good song I heard on XM Octane Radio (channel 37) last night; TFK is a great band - have their album from 2012.

    TFK - Push

This world can’t hold us, you can’t mess with soldiers
There’s no cell big enough to hold us
We came to be a wrecking ball to these boulders
Know this, I ain’t scared of these cobras
Over time, they’ve tried to just fold us
They thought they could mess with this focus
But there’s no room for these locusts
‘Cause real faith’s belief without borders
    Hold this

We yell, but no one hears
We persevere, as we approach the line
We march, for all those fears, that kept us here
    This time they’re left behind

    Acting like they don’t notice
But they’re just mad because they can’t mold us
    Told you never underestimate soldiers
‘Cause you can build a thousand walls
    You can’t hold us

If we just keep running away
    We’ll never make it alive
Until we stand and we fight
Aim, fire, and blow it away
    We’re storming enemy lines
    Leaving no one behind

    This rock can’t hold us
‘Cause the light has shown us
No fear’s big enough to own us
We were never meant to fit in these folders
Know this, I ain’t scared of these posers
Over time we all face opponents
They thought they could mess with this focus
They forgot, the end of the climb’s the coldest, known as
Life’s a battlefield of moments, hold this

We yell, but no one hears
We persevere, as we approach the line
We march, for all those fears, that kept us here
    This time they’re left behind

    Acting like they don’t notice
But they’re just mad because they can’t mold us
    Told you never underestimate soldiers
‘Cause you can build a thousand walls
    You can’t hold us

If we just keep running away
    We’ll never make it alive
Until we stand and we fight
Aim, fire, and blow it away
    We’re storming enemy lines
    Leaving no one behind

If we just keep running away
    We’ll never make it alive
Until we stand and we fight
Aim, fire, and blow it away
    We’re storming enemy lines
    Leaving no one behind

If we just keep running away
    We’ll never make it alive
Until we stand and we fight

    My observations bolded.

    First in line
For the wishing well, well, well
    For a long time
    Can't you tell?
    First in line
    Give me a new start
    Give me a new page

Hopeful, eager, maybe even desperate, but a wishing well doesn't help anyone. Also feel like I'm going through motions, trying to make something stick. Futile.

You see I would have killed Romeo, and saved Juliet
But I don't write stories, no, that time won't forget

This line evokes tragedy. I, too, prefer the bittersweet ending of a dead lover, but the hope for the living loved. Instead, Shakespeare killed them both. It must have been the right choice, because the narrative stuck over the centuries. We're doomed.
So won't you pass me the kerosene
    Let's burn to the ground
    You've been looking for meaning
Did you like what you found?

Sometimes it feels like it would be a lot easier to destroy the past. As if that could be done. And life doesn't always hold the answers we want; in fact it usually doesn't.
    Forgive me, I've been lonely
Self explanatory. Not that I deserve forgiveness, but I still want it.
But it is not like I don't know my way
    I don't know my way

Contradiction. I know how to beat porn. I've had 80+ day and a 60+ day streaks, respectively. I'm in a better place now than ever before. But I still screw it up and I'm in a place for recovery where I don't feel as confident in the experiences of others. I'm getting into uncharted territory. I'm frustrated.

Oh look at you all shining
And didn't you do well, well, well, well
    For a long time

In all honesty, I have nothing for this.
How could I tell you my secret?
The married addict's conundrum. You love her. You don't want to hurt her. Telling her about your addiction will hurt her, she won't understand. Better to protect her from it. Protect her from yourself.
It's all a lie. I've covered that before, you can check out the link in my signature. But the line is in past tense, the secret is out now. There's regret that I didn't tell sooner, didn't start working on this before.

I don't know where to go from here
    Give me a new page

    Doubt, and desperation
There are some things, that will never change
    Fear

You see I would have killed Romeo, and saved Juliet
But I don't write stories, that time won't forget
So won't you pass me the kerosene
    Let's burn to the ground
    You'v been looking for meaning
Did you like what you found?
    Forgive me I've been lonely
But it is not like I don't
Know my way, but I don't know why
Oh Romeo, Oh Romeo, Oh Romeo, Oh Romeo, Oh Romeo...
    Forgive me, I've been lonely
But it is not like I don't know my way
And I don't know my way

The particulars are all the same, repetition underscores stagnation. Voicing this is not cathartic release. I'm not better now. This isn't part of my healing, it's just an expression of emotion.

I can sleep forever with this song. thanks man

stole this song from someone :D

    Everybody's always talking at me
Everybody's trying to get in my head
I wanna listen to my own heart talking
I need to count on myself instead

    Did you ever
Lose yourself to get what you want?
    Did you ever
Get on a ride, then wanna get off?

Something about this one I'm feeling it right now (testoserone up?) - back to the 90's - no 80s! Full lyrics in the Youtube comments for both. I guess war against porn maybe, and how we lose our true selves..

Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
    The slaughter never ends

    Soldier boy, made of clay
    Now an empty shell
    Twenty one, only son
    But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
    Do just as we say
    Finished here, greetings death

And of course the title track of the album, especially when it comes to addiction:

End of passion play, crumbling away
    I'm your source of self-destruction
Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear
    Leading on your deaths' construction

    Taste me you will see
    More is all you need
    You're dedicated to
    How I'm killing you

    Come crawling faster
    Obey your master
    Your life burns faster
    Obey your master
    Master

Master of puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
    Master
    Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
    Master
    Master

EDIT: You can't exactly fap when listening to Metallica...

GN'R: Greatest Hits when I was 12 yrs old. Great album, great band.

  15. I would like to say I got something amazing....but the first album I bought was "Life In General" by MxPx, specifically for the song "Chick Magnet". They were also the first band I went to see in concert.

    Fuck, I'm old.

I was the youngest in a very large family and all of my older brothers loved mainstream R&B, boy bands and female pop stars: Boys II Men, Hansen, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Brittaney Spears, Michael Jackson, Annie Lennox, Aqua, Ace of Base, Spice Girls.

I dare say that the first cassette that I ever bought was a "Sugar Ray" single in first grade or something equally as terrible. I'm surprised that I remember that. I don't remember the song at all. I just know that it's something that I would hate now. I did kind of get into Ace of Base and Aqua embarrassingly enough.

I didn't really start getting a real sense of my own taste until I started buying movie soundtracks a few years later. I think that the first soundtrack that I bought was the Godzilla (the shitty one with Matthew Broderick) soundtrack.

Then I started getting really into RPGs: Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VII-X, Earthbound. This is when I really started to actually get passionate about music. It was all so different... It had a sincerity I had never heard before. It moved me on a very primal level, even bringing me to tears or giving me goosebumps. This is probably the only music that I still actually enjoy from my youth.

Everything before that was just kind of drowning out the silence, I just listened to it because it's what other people liked and I thought that I should too. Hell even a lot of the music that I listened to in highschool, I only listened to because my friends really liked it. I still love Radiohead, though my first exposure to them was their song Talkshow Host featured on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. The Matrix soundtrack also changed my life.

I wouldn't take back any of my experience even though a lot of it is embarrassing to admit and I don't like or listen to about 90% of what I used to listen to. I learned what I liked and got better and better at narrowing that down.

Ten year old me listened to this song over and over and over and now I know why. It's so god damned good.

The funny thing is: that band, Orchid, was originally labeled as "screamo". What people now consider screamo is like a completely different genre. It originally was more of a hardcore/metal subgenre than the poppy stuff that eventually carried on the torch of the genre name.

If you look up first wave screamo there was some amazing hardcore music that came out of it: Rites of Spring, Embrace, Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Orchid, pg.99, Reversal of Man, Off Minor, Swing Kids, Saetia, Neil Perry, combatwoundedveteran, Ampere, Circle Takes the Square, Gospel, Portraits of Past, City of Caterpiller, Funeral Diner, etc.... I love a lot of hardcore/metal stuff from screamo to sludge to mathcore to powerviolence.

Electronic music is great. There are some pretty good chiptune artists out there. I've always been more into IDM: Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, etc... I think that my favorite chiptune artist is Disasterpeace.

Oh hell yes! Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets are their best albums imo. Everything else they did was meh, but omg those three albums were groundbreaking!
