I've been in NoFap challenge on and off for over a year and a half already and this is the first time I've seen this video.

Basically it goes like this. One rat is alone in a cage, he is given a choice to drink from two sources of water. One ordinary water one with drugs in it. The rat prefers the water with the drugs in it and got addicted to it until it die.

Another experiment is the rat park. Lots of rat where put in a "playground." Lots of fellow rats, male and female rats, lots of tunnels in it to play around. Basically, it is a heaven for rats. The rats in the park also has a choice two drink from two sources of water like the one in the cage. Surprisingly, no rats got addicted to the one with the drugs in it. Everyone drinks the normal water.

I wish I've seen this video waaay before. Few months ago I went to a therapist and told me that I should be enjoying my life. It looks common sense but I guess porn desensitize my brain to the point that I no longer take pleasure in natural rewards (bonding, socializing, exercising). That might be the reason why when I started doing these natural rewards again I found it waaay boring and uninteresting. But I know that if I keep doing it I will eventually regain my sensitization with these natural rewards. Lots of improvements since I went to that therapist.

Like the one in the rat park, I noticed that these natural rewards are the one that will help me overcome this addiction.

  2. Yeah this video is much helpful to understand what addiction is and I can relate to it's idea of cages.

Really interesting video indeed, might be relevant for people with social anxiety in particular.
