If you look at old documentary footage of rock concerts, most of the girls and guys in the audience were thin and sexy.

For example, look at the Woodstock rock concert documentary from 1969. The guys and girls were hot in America.

Now go to a rock concert in this era. So many guys and girls are enormous!

Fat people should be shamed. Being fat is unhealthy and gross and leads to diseases and an early death. It's also a sign of a poor personality and lack of discipline.

  5. The problem with this is that a lot of people assume every fat person is unhealthy & doing nothing about it. And it's not always so..

While I can't deny that being overweight is associated with lots of health risks, I would also argue that the sort of behaviors that cause a person to become overweight (i.e. sedentary lifestyle and processed foods) are more of the problem. I believe one can be both fit and fat if they are active and just happen to eat a lot of (calorie dense) healthy food. Additionally, some people are genetically predisposed not to be thin. I acknowledge that's not many cases, but fat itself isn't so much a problem. Either way, I don't think fat shaming or calling someone else out is very helpful. There are three cases:

    1. They are unhappy about their body, but not doing anything to change in. You might think that fat shaming would be motivating, and it might be, but I think supporting people through the changes they are trying to make is much more helpful. (If you need a means to empathize, is it more motivating to hear someone go on about how gross people who use porn are or hearing about the positive effects from someone who wants to support you and your wellbeing?)

    2. They are unhappy and actively trying to change. Again, not the most helpful to be calling them out and embarrassing them.

    3. They are content with the way their body is. Your opinion is merely insulting them, and they really don't need your input on how they should live their life.

Above all, I'm a believer in balance and holistic health. We all take calculated risks and partake in potentially unhealthy behaviors for pleasure. You might think of the common vices like smoking and drinking, but just riding in a car is a risk to your well-being. Using a cellphone could be a risk to your well-being. Swimming, skydiving, really any sport and many hobbies, even just standing in the sun is a risk to your well-being. If someone else feels truly fulfilled and happy with a lifestyle that involves indulging in food a little more than is necessary, who are you to judge their lifestyle because they don't fit your ideal body standards? Fat shaming does little good for overweight people and creates a new problem of eating disorders, which cause serious damage to physical and mental health and even kill people. Judging people simply isn't helpful.

Well, this generation also has a virtually inexhaustible food supply, which can't compare to 1969 and such.

I am against a fat society, mainly because it's not good for the health and can drive up medical bills.

However, I would like to see more fat people represented in Hollywood.

For example, I want to see more romantic movies with fat women because that's actually realistic in America.

I agree , being fat is unheathly and should be shamed .

  12. Where does it end? Poor shaming? Skinny shaming? PORN-ADDICTION SHAMING? So glad to see here that nobody on this thread will ever have to worry about being shamed for anything in their life....

There's a big difference between shaming and endorsing. Nobody should endorse an unhealthy lifestyle, but the idea that we can help people to improve themselves by putting them down and casting dispersions on them and their lifestyles is wrong. People know when they have a problem, and if they don't, it is the job of family and friends to help them see it. Not us.

  16. Sometimes the right thing to do for people whom you care about is not to be nice and avoid hurting their feelings, but to honestly tell them that what they're doing is wrong. "Shaming" seems to have a negative connotation, as if it's always done maliciously. Being shamed hurts, but sometimes it's the best thing that can happen to a person, and a little humility goes a long way. I feel shame for being addicted to porn, and would not hold it against someone who criticized me for it, provided they did so with good reason.

It's undeniably true that a large percentage of people in the US are unhealthy.

When did we become so easily offended about everything . Feminism has really ruined a lot .

    Being fat is unhealthy

Smoking is bad for your health

Masterbating is wrong and ruins your body .

    Facts are facts

  18. Nobody is disputing anything you listed, but the fact that you think feminism has anything to do with shaming, or being easily offended on anything is, frankly, laughable and alarming.

You're on a porn addiction website. Should we all gang up and publicly shame you? No, we can't because you're ANONYMOUS here. No public picture or name. You're can't be shamed, because you take measures to protect your identity, but you have no issues with shaming others. Being easily offended or a feminism couldn't be more unrelated to this. Do you see the hypocrisy in your thought patterns?

No one is arguing that unhealthy eating and a sedentary lifestyle are good, but the thought that shaming people is helpful is preposterous. News flash: fat people know that being overweight isn't healthy. Some care and are trying to change that; some are fat and happy, and they may experience health issues and they may not. It's none of our business.

You act as though fat shaming is caring about someone's wellbeing. Do you shame smokers? Do you go out to a bar and comment on how disgusting excessive alcohol consumption is? Do you tell people who are spending time outside that they should really put on some sun tan lotion to avoid skin cancer? Do you call people out who don't wear their seatbelt? If you answered no to any of these questions, you're not on a health crusade, caring about the wellbeing of strangers. You're simply singling out a group of people because you don't like the way they look or the way you assume they choose to live their lives.

If you don't want to be fat, eat what you consider to be reasonable, and exercise, but live and let live.

    Calm down people.

The truth is that fat shaming is kind of false.

In the African American community, fat girls are actually considered sexy.
