Duration of withdrawals

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by hyperventi, Aug 14, 2017.

  1. I just wanted to know how long are usually supposed to last the withdrawals?
I mean before we could reasonably begin to hope some positive change?

  2. I suspect it depends. For me, withdrawals can be less then a day. It depends on how quickly I get to some positive productivity. A challenge for me is that the withdrawals do not last long enough, or that an amnesia of the pain comes back to quickly, and I can feel a smugness that I can handle some PM, some cider. :)

The first two weeks are the hardest because you don't see much progress with it. After that they sort of counterbalance each other and the withdrawal is less physically painful.

I'm on my 3rd reboot. The 1st was 26 days, 2nd 16, and now 3rd on day 7. 49 out of 51 days PMO free. Today is gets bad. I get headaches and bad urges. I don't flatline. My 16 day one should have been longer but I added a social media and cursing detox into the mix and it was too much at once. Now I should be adjusted to all three. The main thing I notice positive wise is I'm so much firmer and sensitive during the day. Even with the two relapse days real women look 100 times better. My ED is not porn induced but medication induced but adding any kind of porn makes it worse. Reboot works better than pills. If you feel awful during the reboot it's ok to try to take the edge off the pain with some Advil for headaches, Try breathing exercises or meditation for anxiety, hot baths for muscle aches and pains, etc. The reboot will be uncomfortable not matter what but don't make it so torturous you will never last. The biggest issue that most people in these forums fail to mention is learning how to handle urges when still. You can't go non stop 24/7 to avoid PMO or you are just avoiding the problem. Looking inside yourself is never easy but necessary.

  5. Thank you.
I was mostly asking this because I'm on day 40. This is a huge thing as I did it on my first try.
The effort is big cause M was one of the only pleasures that I had.

And after 40 days, my anxiety is still so high. I honestly saw no difference. The most days are going, the most I m asking me if I m not just losing my time with this. Or in another way, just doing huge efforts for nothing.

It can last for quite some time. But it is different for everyone.
For example, when I did 46 of NoFap I felt miserable from Day 21 onward and I couldn't hold it anymore. Lack of motivation, depression, not wanting to do anything... the list goes on. And I have relapsed.
However, when I tried PornFree with masturbation on average every 3rd Day, I have reached 72 Days and I did not feel any of the above, actually I felt good and had plenty of energy but that wasn't it.
Now I am on NoFap again.

I don't want to discourage you, but you need to know that most of us are addicted for years and merely 90 Day of Reboot won't be enough.
Good luck and do your best to stay with those withdrawal symptoms.

Don't think of it as 90 days. That's a problem I see on here. People think scaring people to say it could take years etc just increase the persons anxiety. Think of it as a day to day process. I'm not a porn addict I could 6-8 months and never look at it and never miss it. The simple sight of a naked girl or bikini model doesn't mean I have to whack right then and there. My ED is medication induced. I did NoFap simply as an experiment. Trust me if I didn't see anything positive happening with no dick I wouldn't be rebooting. I was masturbating maybe 2X a week at most not 20 times. I didn't need porn to masturbate but I did use a it sometimes. It my dick wasn't firmer during the day, my erections like flagpoles, and my sensitivity incredibly heightened I wouldn't be rebooting. I'm also single and no seeing anybody at the moment. Honestly most of it is impulse control and learning to handle urges when you can't run away from them. I'm doing it because it seems to work.

40 days is awesome. I thought 26 for myself was a miracle. You know when it works? When it works for you.

  9. Thank you guys.

The only thing which makes me go on is the experiment. To watch by myself if it really does something.
But to be honest, I already tried something like 20 challenges like this one to cure my anxiety. As it started, I have the feeling it will just be one more on the list.

I was edging something like 4 hours each day (But never watched porn). Your practice was really soft compared to mine. Thats maybe why my withdrawals are so much strong and last for so long.

No Nap isn't a cure all for all problems either

  12. Sorry. I m not a native english speaker.
I was meaning your way to PMO into the past.

You are right. Lot of people tell it helped to reduce a lot their anxiety. But maybe mine is just too much high to wait a miracle from nofap.

  15. Thank you.
