A surprising connection between eating habits and p. addiction

    I am a long time PMO addict who only managed to get short breaks from it now and then because of the strong urges to do it and all the effort it took me to just not doing it. I normally do it almost daily.

    A week ago i decided to do an experiment with my eating habits. After reading about intermittent fasting and the benefits that comes with it, i decided to try it myself. I started doing it by skipping breakfast and only eat lunch & dinner. However, i was strict on not eating any large portions, allowing myself to feel really hungry until i ate my next meal. The first coupe of days were painful but i quickly adapted and started to feel the positive effects that i read about, like feeling more energized and motivated.

    After about a week i made a surprising realization - i haven't been doing any PMO, without even trying to quit! It seems like limiting the amount of food i eat and practice dealing with hunger on a daily basis has reduced my lustful desires. My urge to do PMO just dropped by itself and i had almost no spontaneous erections. It feels like my mental and physical state have shifted. Have any of you experienced this?

    It has been just over a week of intermittent fasting and no PMO so it is too early to draw any conclusions but i am really looking forward to find out if eating less will help me achieve a lasting PMO free period without the constant struggle of not acting out.

    Today, after about 1,5 week of no PMO i started to feel some temptations. I also had a short P related dream this night, which is a clear sign of detox. Since my brain doesn't get its usual dose of sexual content, it is trying to create it on its own. I am not sure how long this phase will last but my guess is around a month. The temptations are fully manageable so far, hope it stays this way.

    Interesting. I have quite a difficult relationship with food and ive noticed that PMO relapses often lead to binge eating. Maybe the other way round could work? I definitely think there is a connection, for me.

    I am the exact opposite. My binge eating leads to pmo. Maybe because binge eating is a bigger problem for me than porn, much bigger. When I binge eat, it is the lowest of the low for me and I don't care about anything so I'll just go ahead and satisfy any craving no matter what the cost. It is extremely detrimental behavior.

    I've been a weight lifter for years and tried every eating protocol you can imagine. The only thing I'll say is when trying anything new go slowwww, it is a slippery slope and it snowballs quickly. Before you know it, you can have a full blown eating disorder. As far as my eating habits now, I just do it intuitively and try to use common sense. I know what this is supposed to feel like after years of trying this and that, but it doesn't always work because I created an addiction that I've been battling with for over a decade.

    Truthfully I didn't even realize I had a problem with porn until I read, Your Brain On Porn. It definitely explains why I could never have an orgasm during sex unless I thought about much more graphic things. It became increasingly more difficult over the years and worrisome.

    Went 20 days from pmo and flatlined the entire time until day 20. Once my erections came back I was extremely happy. For one of the first times in my life I masturbated without thinking of anything, went off of pure physical stimulation. If any thoughts creeped inside my head I stopped and wouldn't start again until I erased them. When I climaxed, it was much more satisfying than with porn. I was extremely happy afterwards. It proved to me that porn was the problem and it was fixable.

    Unfortunately, I had the chaser effect the next day but this time I had to incorporate thoughts to get off because physically stimulation only wouldn't work...The next day too. Then I binge ate and watched porn
    The pmo was not the cause of the binge.

    I only masturbated on day 20 because that's when my flatline ended and I did not know about any rebooting timelines. YBOP doesn't give that kind of info. I only found out about rebooting this morning when I read the NoFap starting guide.

    Today is 2 days without eather. Gonna try and go 90.

    I feel you bro , Food is a Big One when it comes to Corn Addiction , Clean Eating is Key when it comes to recovery.

    I am not sure which one is the chicken and the egg here, but there is definitely a correlation between binge eating and PMO. I believe that both of these behaviors activate the same feel-good chemicals in our brains. This definitely explains why it has been much easier for me to avoid PMO once i started intermittent fasting and reduced my portions. As a bonus, i've lost about 2kg of bellyfat since i started this experiment :)

    I too am doing the same thing , for the past few days i've been eating clean and small portions and training hard in the Gym to burn the belly fat and have a flat stomach because i'm going on a trip in a couple of weeks or so and want to be in shape for the beach , eating well like that definetlly have a positive impact on NoFap pprocess and the mental health.

    Today i've passed the 15 day mark of being PMO free. Although it is a very short period, it still makes a huge difference compared to do PMO almost daily. I am starting to notice how sexualized women are in the western world, almost feels like haft of the world is enslaved by sex in one way or another. Erotic scenes in (normal) movies feels more triggering. I also find my hands try to touch myself once in a while, specially during evenings, and i have to stop myself. I sometimes fantasize about watching P and have to stop myself from continue those thoughts. This must be withdrawal symptoms. Still going strong though, the journey towards freedom continues!

    Haha, if that works for you then it is great! Batman would put on a leather suit and go to a cave i guess, not the most practical thing to do but it distracts the mind :)

    I had a few beers a few hours ago. Although i didn't get that much drunk it did put a dent in my motivation for a few hours. But luckily i have started this thread and i didn't want to admit a relapse, therefore i did not engage in PMO! Feels great to be able to resist the temptation. I just hope that it will get easier, because it takes a considerable effort to NOT engage in PMO some days. I am afraid that i will feel weaker one day and not being able to fight the urge. I still do intermittent fasting and avoiding binge eating, it still helps but remaining sober is no longer a walk in the park, like it was when i first started the thread.

    How long is your longest PMO free streak since you entered recovery?

  12. Eating and drinking, they really steers our days.
    I'm on a fast myself at this moment. I want to do a full fast combined with prayers.
    I'm phasing out in steps, then do the full fast for some days, then building up.
    After 4 days without coffee I feel already better.
    Food gives a huge load of dopamine, so it's not difficult to understand the relationship with the floads of dopamine that pmo gives us.

    I like the idea of sobriety and living a content life.
    Being content and being sober, that's the key on the long term.

    my longest streak was almost 2 years but it wasn't the cleanest , there were some click baits , self deception and rationalizations that i did to view some edgy content on social media ! but in less than an hour i'm going to complete day 30 and in 7 and a half years of attempting to recover from pmo this is by far the cleanest most disciplined & successful streak / life-style.

    Today i have been edging quite heavily and need to get this behavior out of me. I have slowly increased the amount of watching youtube videos that feature woman in one way of another. It may be influencer documentary, body building, eating disorders etc, or any other topic with a female presenter. On the surface it looked harmless until i realized that my brain is screaming after watching woman on a computer screen and trying EVERYTHING to make me relapse! I am still motivated to continue my PMO free streak but i really hopes it will get easier eventually and that it is really possible to de-sexualize my brain.
