Yes I've been studying for the last 5 years, there's a few things I've learnt.

I don't set a strict schedule, rather I write a 'to do list' on paper each morning and mark things off as I go.

When it comes to assignments/exams, I set all the due dates out in a word document and either print it or have it on my desktop. Every time something is complete I mark it off also. This method makes it really easy to see, at a glance, "there's 2 essays coming up in 3 weeks, better start those soon..."

I take notes in every class. And if I'm not taking notes I have a pen or similar object in my hand (this is just a strange fact, we listen and learn better when our hands are occupied.) And many of your notes will be useful, if not now, then maybe next year when a similar topic comes up and you vaguely remember there was a lecture on it - and luckily you took notes!!

Finally, a balanced lifestyle is best. Things like socialising, exercise, healthy food, time to just play and relax, being in nature, these are all important to give your brain the mix it needs. And a healthy body provides for a healthy mind.

Don't stress too much about the PMO habit. It's not easy for anyone to quit. But the fact you're taking that challenge on as well is just a testament to your willingness to improve!
