Can someone explain how this pluckeye works?

Yes, but the maximum delay is 7 days. So if you have your delay set to 7 days and you want to look at a porn site, you can instruct Plucky/Pluckeye to unblock that porn site, but it will only be unblocked after your delay elapses (i.e. 7 days later). If, on the 5th day of waiting, you decide that the porn site will do you no good, you can cancel your instruction and the porn site will automatically go back to being blocked (i.e. it will no longer be unblocked after 2 additional days elapse). In essence, you have 7 days to come to your senses.

 

I'm finding plucky to be very useful. On my second laptop however I made a mistake of using "flee word" command to block a word in a different language i.e. not latin words (the result was flee word ???) and it blocked the whole internet for 7 days lol So for blocking a word in another language I'm finding cold turkey to be the first choice. Works good.
I'm wondering, is there any way to make the delay longer than 7 days on plucky?

You can. You can use wildcards.
So for example:
*query*keyword*
&
*search*keyword*

This should cover searches for most websites. You can do a lot of things with the wildcards, but I found at a certain level of complexity though it would fail so simple is best. Also be careful if you just want to block just specific short words(3-4 letter words) since sometimes links can have those inside and it will block random pages. For a while I couldn't access certain pages on my bank because of that.

At the end of the day though, I found the best use of cold turkey is to block any kind of distraction at all, and then set that to a timer for how long I would be on the PC to work. That way it's voluntary every time. I choose it, so that makes it so that I am confronting my own choice if I try to test a way around. Its best if you can just figure out your use case for the computer, block everything, and then whitelist only what you need.

Also wanted to ask, have you found a software as good as cold turkey for android? I know those are only apps that require admin access so i've been looking around for many months now how to download and handle a safe and effective one.

 

Not really. I haven't had great success, and right now I manage my habits to not use it. If you look it up on the forum, there are extensive guides, but fool proofing them seems like a lot of work with multiple services.

There is one really great option that does block everything though: A dumb phone. If you can live life with just calls and texts, they really do give you a lot more mental space. The Light Phone 2 is a good option w/ an on screen keyboard and even GPS(which is the often the most important thing other than talk+text) No camera can be hard for some. Freeing for others. HIT k1 seems to have the same major features and a low-ish resolution camera. Some people who really need a smartphone for work will just keep their smart phone at work.

 

Yes I'm finding cold turkey to be really good. Bear in mind I'm talking about the paid version. It's really amazing to block even settings pages (like for resetting pc options).

Yeah I've seen that software being talked about here and some people (including me) have a hard time trusting it as it is closed source and on the download instructions page states that on certain versions of android it may crash the whole device.

On that same thread i had found a similar app called Test DPC that seems to be developed by google to control workspace devices. Some guy had found an apparently efficient way to set it up to minimize loop holes you might find but I've messaged him with questions a few weeks now and he hasn't replied.

The thread is called something like "Android DPC..."
