    Hey guys,

I thought of something today. Decided to try it : it worked perfectly! Maybe it could help some of you!

I think our brain has two different parts :

    Rationnal :
    - «Don't do it!»
    - «Here's why you shouldn't do it : [...]»
    - The part of your brain that takes the right decisions
    - Frontal lobes are responsible of this
    Emotionnal :
    - Desires, cravings, urges
    - «I need it RIGHT NOW!»
    - «Whatever you say, it won't change the fact that I need it now!»
    - Reward circuit

We all have trouble thinking clear when our emotionnal brain takes control. It's easy to resist the urges when your rationnal brain is strong enough. Addiction makes your frontal lobes weaker, hence the struggle we all suffer from to resist the temptations.

I found a good way to overcome this. No matter what, I can't think straight when I feel emotionnal, so I decided to write down a letter for each mood that I experience during my reboot. I wrote down every letter when I felt purely rationnal and willing to overcome my addiction. Each letter ends with alternative to get back into an healthy mood. Right now, I'm in pure flatline, so I have no urges. I often feel depressed, anxious, empty, tired and I always want to take naps to take the pain away. Everytime I want to take a nap because I am too tired, I open the letter I wrote to myself when I crave for a nap and I do everything I wrote in the letter. It's literally listening to your rationnal brain. I wrote down anything I need to hear to make me resist, everything I need to make me feel good. Each letter ends with a ''congratulations on reading this, you are healing!''. This is an awesome way because if you actually read the whole letter and do exactly what you told yourself to do, you reinforce new healthy neural pathways in your brain and your frontal lobes will grow stronger.

I have a letter for when I feel like a taking a nap, when I feel depressed, when I have urges (which I never have because of the flatline...), when I feel empty. It helps me a lot because I can always keep contact with my rationnal brain and it helps to not overthink things too much. I also thought of recording myself instead of writing but I'm more comfortable with letters.

Figured it could maybe help some other fapstronauts! :)

    Good luck,
    Phyzik :)

    That's a really good advise!

Yes, as you say: Writing about your emotions by hand(!) is bringing your thoughts out of a fuzzyness into a clear reflection; and also your further plans will be reinforced. Later, when you are in a situation where your are confused by emotions, you can read a letter and find your way back to your original plans and more rational thinking.

I did something similar some years ago, and it helped a lot: I wrote about my inner fears and I tried to memorize some moments in my life where I felt those fears. Later, I threw the paper away. It helped a lot. I read this advice in the book "Self-discipline in 10 days" bei Neil Fiore, it proved to be a great advise.
