    Ugh!

I've been lazing around this morning -- got a little bit of work done, but mostly, I'm feeling lethargic. I want to be more physically active, but I'm having difficulty getting going.

And, as I'm just in my recliner watching a video, I notice this sexual arousal comes up. It's disconnected from what I'm watching on tv and what I'm thinking about. But the arousal comes up, and a part of me wants to go into those old thoughts and to M.

So I'm writing about this instead!

I think tiredness is one of my big triggers for this -- tiredness and feeling like I'm existing in a physical state somewhere between asleep and awake.

I notice the last few days that one of the fastest ways I'm instinctively countering the arousal is to tense the muscles in that whole area. Seems to give me some immediate relief from those feelings. But today, the help of that lasts for only the second that the muscles are tense.

I think maybe this is my body saying it's time to get moving and get active. I'm going to call a friend I have plans with this afternoon, and just stay in some gentle motion for a bit -- do some decluttering. And I may check in more later.

I wonder what other folks do to shift gears when sexual energy seems to go into hyperdrive for no apparent reason?

  2. Meditation is a very good way to shift gears. It releases dopamine and actually undoes some of the damage you caused by PMOing. It also helps you ignore the visual imagery that often accompanies arousal or sexual feelings. I've had to use it a lot today because, like you, those sexual feelings have just been relentless today.

Another good way to shift gears is to draw that sexual energy into the rest of your body using imagery and energy work. Tensing up your bottom really helps with this, as you've discovered (it's called the bhanda [sp.?] lock in yoga). Basically all you do is when you breathe in, image all your sexual energy shooting up your spine into your brain where it collects behind your brain. Then when you breathe out, imagine the energy trickling down into your heart and from there into the rest of your body.

If tiredness and lethargy are triggers for you, then be more active. Pick up a hobby that involves work, like gardening or taking walks in the park, or playing a sport. Do a little bit each day. Say ten minutes. And after you've been doing something active for ten minutes each day for two weeks or so, then increase the time. This way you can gradually build yourself up to longer periods of activity and you won't feel so lethargic.

I wish you luck in dealing with your urges, Hope!

Thank you, BuddhaPunk! I have never heard of this method of drawing the energy into the rest of my body. That's helpful!

As to physical activity: Yes. I've found ways of moving that I really like, but a recent injury has meant cutting way back on that activity. I need to find a way to ease myself back into fitness. Or at least 10 mins a day of something resembling fitness! Good idea.
