    I'm learning German N had a doubt:
    Auf dem Bild sind acht Personen zu sehen

    How come this means: there are 8 people in the pic.

    Zu sehen means to see.

    It means the "picture shows 8 people." Read up on grammar rule "Partizip."

    You could translate "zu sehen" as "to be seen."
