Hello!

Discussion in 'New to NoFap' started by G. Goodman, Sep 30, 2019.

  1. I am a nineteen-year-old male. I am a former brony and furry. I chronically masturbated to this material for a little over seven years.
The effects of this have been the following: (1) a decrease of motivation in my studies (which my success in, due to my values and upbringing, is a fundamental part of my self-worth), (2) feelings of isolation, insecurity and self-hatred from keeping this side of my former self secret from my family and friends (I continue to keep this information private as I would rather overcome this addiction and leave it in the past), and (3) an inability to pursue romantic and sexual relationships on personal moral grounds.
I have decided to quit porn for two reasons. First, I would like to build self-respect. In order to have self-respect, I need to have control over my impulses and live a life where my morals are in alignment with my actions (this would address effects 2 & 3). Second, I would like to pursue a romantic relationship. I believe that the most long-lasting and most intimate relationships are brought about when two mature individuals come together (maturity, in this case, being when a person's morals are in alignment with one's actions and the individual has self-respect). Chronic porn use has made me realize just how lonely a purely sexual life is. I want to feel and give love (the emotion/bond). I realize that I could begin a relationship during recovery but I've decided against this (despite the potential benefits) on the grounds that I want to reach a certain level of maturity (a fully completed reboot) so that I can present a more functional, moral version of myself to my partner.
My parameters is three years of rebooting, starting today, 1st October 2019.
Before joining NoFap, I had taken serious steps towards recovery for a year. Not having made much recovery despite many different alterations in approach, I've decided to give NoFap my best. I find the community-minded atmosphere of this approach logically conducive to success. If I find it difficult to build self-respect on my own, it is possible that I can build it while celebrating the accomplishments of others alongside my own. If my writing voice comes across as reserved, don't worry, I'm super friendly one-on-one. I know that I will reboot and be able to live a love life afterwards. If, down the line, you want any advice (though, my information may or may not be applicable to your situation) don't be afraid to reach out.

  3. Heyyy welcome to the NoFap forum : ) It's nice to see you here fighting the good fight alongside us!

    Here is just some advice:

First and foremost please take a look at each section in the forum, there might be something(s) you may find of big help to you. Feel free to post there :+)

Then secondly I just strongly advise you to be active on your profile(as there quite a few active people in the profile section). Please start by choosing an avatar and then make daily status posts to show you're active and needing support/encouragement. They've also got a neat little feature that shows freshly posted statuses for all users to see. People will find your profile and give you encouragement/support.

People (are beginning to) love communicating in the profilesection..(it should be and is )mostly spportive talk but it doesn't hurt to deviate from supportive talk. It would be great to have you join in and support others in the threads, profiles, and journal. Make sure and be grateful for the help you received and help after receiving some. Invest in some people's journeys. We could always use your help and in return you shall receive some as well!

Thirdly, You should also highly consider creating a public journal and write about your days in more depth for us members to follow along your journey and offer support to you by way of posting in your journal.

Last but not least: Good luck on your journey here, make sure to really give it a try with all your heart!
