Hey guys, I want to ask a simple question. How much time does it take to be fully rebooted? I am more than a year sober from porn. I am 22 years old now, and used to watch porn since i was 10 years old.
Ron: I'm only 49 days into a reboot, recovery process, so I am not sure I have a definitive answer for you. I think it depends on how you define your use of porn. If we truly are addicts, like drug or alcohol addicts, then we will always be so; they say addiction is a disease that never goes away. This isn't quite uplifting since it means we have to work every day of ours lives to stay clean. On the other hand, just like a drug addict who chooses to stay away from a life connected with drugs, when we choose to avoid porn, it makes staying clean somewhat easier. There will still be triggers and urges. But hopefully, over time, we develop tools and behaviors that help us understand and work with those triggers and urges so they do not lead to acting out. I think, as humans, we will always be drawn to attractive people, whether your preference is women or men. But we have to re-train our minds not to objectify people and consider the true beauty of them and in them. As I come to my 49th day, I have a huge appreciation for people like you who have reached a year and more. I also have a much deeper appreciation for what it feels like to be clean and PMO-free. The longer I go, the more I think or wonder 1) how did I ever live like that for so long? and 2) it feels incredible to be sober! So, when are you recovered? In every moment you stay sober and PMO-free, no more and no less. Peace.
That sum up everything right there, I have been feeling a bit weak today (Just entered my first flat line of this streak which is always a scary thing) been feeling a bit down so knew i needed to come on to the forums after work for a pick me up . Its these sort of insights that will help keep me on the right track as well as seeing all you guys who are on long streaks.
