I am addicted to youtube. I waste > 4 hours each day listening to random crap.

These random subjects that I listen to/watch, fill my mind with tons of information. At night, I sleep poorly because my brain is processing all that new info each day.

Also, when I make real life decisions, I have low attention span and I do not usually have the energy and time to think deeply about each given decision that I make.

My PMO is a bit under control now. My social media and political forums addiction was costing me huge amounts of time and energy in the past, solved it by deleting all accounts and self banning.

In the past, video games were my addiction as well. Solved that by not playing anymore as I bought a crappy computer.

The youtube thing is my next big challenge. I need to quit it. Just like a severe addiction to PMO, my brain is manufacturing reasons for why I should not.

Do you know of any websites / forums that discuss the youtube addiction topic ?

Also, I realize my life is worse than it could have been - because I did not work enough and I am to be blamed for my addictions. I should have worked a lot more. I have some remorse because of this.

i only watch people are awsome, just of laugh gags, technical channels, discovery channel, history tv chaneel documentaries.
i watch favourite news anchor vidoes on youtube . i would recommend only infotainment / technical channels on youtube.
otherwise , youtube is also soft core porn.
sometimes i play two videos at same time in two tabs. vlc player have video speed adjustment. i put video speed to 0.50x sometimes. speed adjustment also helps. vlc color exctraction features also good.
ex. one video -wings of paradise bird video. i like music of that video . so i play that video in background and i watch people are awsome video with mute audio.
keeping volume of one video and mutingg other other video. and watching muted video.
this things sound stupid . but it helps me sometimes.

You are a fellow youtube addict. Welcome to the club !

The most evil thing about youtube, and the one we will have to pay the most for is this: "whats your best way to use youtube effectively". Unless you are making money on youtube, you are not using it - it is using you. There is no such thing as using youtube correctly, the same way there is not such thing as using cocaine correctly.

What could youtube ever give you back, in exchange for you time energy and attention, that is worth at least as much money as a min wage job ?

  4. Unsubscribe to shitty channels and click "not interest" in recommendations from shitty stuff.
Now subscribe to good channels and watch them, you will automatically spent less time there because you have no easy distraction and also access to knowledge.

Also you mentioned lots of addictions, all addiction have a root, I recommend that you subscribe to the channel "The school of life", watch their videos and transcribe them and apply them in your life.

  5. I am an internet addict too, and go on youtube every day. When I was in school last year, I failed out partially because I was watching youtube when I should have been studying. I have other behavioral addictions because I have OCD, so I understand where you are coming from. I have started helping myself by exercising and meditating every day, and eating more vegetables. I don't know if eating vegetables will help you with your addictions, but you I think should go to the youtube channel "Michael Sealey" and start listening to some of his guided meditations to help break your addictions too.
