Why do you need pleasure?

i have a prostate condition. my dr. prescribed masturbation w/ urination after climax. he wants me to do this once a week. the problem is not the weekly masturbation. it's the porn addiction. it increases frequency. the desire is strong. i now try to have healthy fantasies without porn and feel a lot less guilt and shame..

 

M was recommended? I noticed at first I felt pressure presumably where my prostate was. It's like at some point the urges were literally coming from my prostate.

 

There is another way known as sublimation. With sublimation, the pleasure we find in Eros is incorporated into higher forms of pleasure... usually of an artistic bent. In the artist's eye, Eros was a cosmic principle incorporated into divine love. It is the Epicurean way as opposed to the Stoic... in cultural terms, it is the classical way instead of the puritanical one. This was all largely lost in the Reformation.

 

Get a new doctor... or at least a second opinion! ha ha

 

A life devoid of pleasure would be akin to a plant put in darkness.

 

It was a matter of "when", not "if" before someone brought that up. I wonder if that issue is prevalent. I hope not. If so, it is the underlying issue for some people. You're very pragmatic. But, it all comes down to "game", really.

 

Life without pleasure is reality for some.

 

No 'game' is a dead end. It just feeds into an out of control libido and encourages you to lower your standards for the 'norm'. The real game is to pursue excellence for yourself, and to then focus on quality in relationships...as opposed to quantity.

 

Nonsense. We just need to re-learn how to take pleasure in the simple things in life. And then the complex pleasures might come in their wake.

I love what you just said. A "corrupted" libido does lower your standards. You'll just want something to have sex with instead of someone you truly love. I hope some don't get caught up into that trap.

You think you don't have pleasure on a daily basis? You kids these days live for pleasure.

 

So true. Music is a good source of pleasure. Talking to friends. Video games... Weightlifting and voguing with "the skin out" for me. I love going into the bathroom and staring at myself. I'm not narcissistic or anything, but I feel blessed and love my face. I feel like I trascend reality by the things I do. I take pleasure in what I have. The goal is to stay content and be happy
