OCD and related disorders

The 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR) groups together OCD these related disorders in the same chapter. In earlier editions, OCD was classified with anxiety disorder.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder characterized by recurring, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions can significantly interfere with daily activities and cause distress.

In addition to OCD, the DSM-5 also includes in the same chapter:
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD),
Hoarding Disorder,
Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder), Excoriation (Skin-Picking) Disorder

These disorders share some similarities with OCD in terms of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors, but they also have distinct features that set them apart.
