I noticed that even when you're not actually watching porn ... You're still watching porn. Sitting at bar one day.. music videos playing...lots of TNA. Whether you're watching network tv... Netflix... Omg don't even mention HBO.. it's either very sexually tense or softcore porn. I don't want to see this stuff lol. I just don't I find it's good to watch things of a historic nature..documentaries on politics, science etc. It makes a big difference.
Yes. I just finished a book on the anti-intellectualism of American history, pretty interesting to look at the attitude through a ton of angles and perspectives. In a way the kind of portrayal in the movie Idiocracy (with a Maturbation channel on TV and a show called "Ow My Balls" where it's just people getting hit there) existed in embryonic form very early on. And the fact is, if anyone can read our two posts in this thread they are smarter and better than that. Why waste our mind on that kind of numbing content?
Indeed. What we look at matters. We all should make an effort to avoid triggers. That's one of the reasons why I don't play video games that have sexual scenes/images in them.
I have no TV, I have a projector on which I watch documentaries mostly, maybe once a week or so. I ditched Netflix and I am super happy with the decision; such a waste of time! But I struggle with what's available on the streets, in general, all advertising, everywhere. Even for cigarettes, showing "friends hanging out in the outback", the girls have impossibly short shorts and take provocative stances. Sex sells, indeed, and so we're an oversexualised society, so much so that it's nearly impossible to escape seeing photoshopped boobs even in restaurant menus...
I'm similarly set up- no tv, no subscriptions, I just watch documentaries on Youtube etc, but even then Youtube's figured out how to circumvent ad blockers and is now playing 5 minute long ads which I can't skip, so I'll probably ditch that soon enough too I'm very lucky to live in a semi-rural area so when I'm out in my local area at least, there are no billboards. I work closer to the city but when I'm there, my post above applies
I'm thinking of tracking all media consumption by type (book, videos etc. )as well as content and amount of time spent - should be interesting..
I also started reading comic books Alot of them have surprisingly great stories. Some of them have some perfectly drawn cleavage... I get it... It's stupid to think allllllll sexuality will be wiped out but still gotta do what you can.
Was listening a while ago a lecture about time and leisure. The speaker was suggesting an exercise, to track all the activities one does for a month. Speaker's point was that we all have time, much more time than we think we have.
