Back in 2012, a Spanish developer called Javier Estarriaga released Logos Quiz, a game app that would have you guess the names of commercial brands from their logos. The app made for some easy entertainment, but more than that it showed how ingrained these images are in most of us after being radiated with advertising for years and years.

Logos Quiz was a huge success, and many game app studios soon tried to copy the formula, coming up with games to guess countries from flags, movies from icons, dog breeds from pictures of dogs (yes, there are actually quite a few of these) and so on, although none of those achieved the success of the original.

Playing that game made me think that if there was a version where the theme was porn, I wouldn't get a single fucking answer wrong.

    ----------------------

It's amazing the amount of information that a porn addict can absorb after years of browsing for porn.

I used to be somewhat active on Forocoches, an all-purpose Internet forum that could be described as some sort of Spanish 4chan. There was this thread there once where someone posted a screenshot of a blowjob scene from a porn video, asking if anyone could identify the girl in it. One of the first users to reply famously said "I don't know who the girl is, but that is Mike Adriano's dick". People found it hilarious and it soon became a meme that users would repeat over and over.

The comment was certainly funny but I knew right away it wasn't just a joke. The video turned out to actually star Mike Adriano, after all. While I don't remember recognizing that specific dick in the picture when I saw it, I know I can definitely identify some porn actors by their penises. And don't get me started with the actresses... All their names and bodies are engraved into my brain.

Even actors' names... One day, I was at the office kitchen talking to some colleagues when for a reason I don't recall someone brought up the movie Sausage Party. In an effort to describe the movie to those who didn't know it, my colleague proceeded to name one of its famous creators. "Seth", he said, "Seth..." he stopped, gesturing as if the last name was at the tip of his tongue. "Seth Gamble!" I exclaimed, excited to prove my film literacy. Another colleague then dismissed my answer and gave the correct name, and it took me a couple of seconds to process what had just happened. I quietly cringed and retreated from the conversation, wondering if anyone else had realized the embarrassing mistake. In a circle of six or seven male software engineers, I'm pretty sure someone caught it.

That's how deep into my brain this information is. Show me a dick, I might tell you the actor. Show me an actress, I name her. Show me a scene, you can bet I've seen it. If you are lucky, I might even be able to tell you the network that produced it. I could name you more than thirty from the top of my head.

    ----------------------

An endless body of porn data.

It is tempting to think about what I could have accomplished was I to put all those hours into something meaningful. But really, for all intents and purposes, I could have just spent them watching garbage television or playing videogames and I would still have come out as a winner.

Instead, the corners of my brain are crowded with useless information. It doesn't make for good dinner conversation, it's not going to win me a prize at a game show. It is just a testimony of my addiction.

Hundreds of hours accumulating problems and, in the process, data.

That's a recurring nightmare of mine, to accidentally say the comedy porn name that is a bit similar to a celebrity rather than their name itself.
Years ago a fellow porn enthusiast at university and me went through the alphabet naming porn stars. Aside from a couple of letters, I reckon we could have gone a couple of times through. We used to exchange DVDs and homemade CDrs of content (this was around the turn of the millennium, and it was a little harder to get quality content for free). Recently in contact and he has completely stopped with the porn, more successfully than me actually. Fair play to him.

p.s. I have just read your Medium posts, you're a great writer. It's a familiar story (although I am 10 years older), especially the aloof parents not giving me privacy forcing me to keep an ear out. I think this is where our feelings of shame started, which actually ended up making the whole thing more exciting. I found it really difficult with my first girlfriend as my idea of sex/sexuality was entirely private. First time we hooked up, we kissed and cuddled in bed a bit, and then I made my excuses, went home, and masturbated to the memory of it. Pathetic!

  3. There's only 1 actor who I can recognize by his penis and 1 woman by her body, and that's mainly because the guy's dick has very obvious signs of surgery on it and the girl is literally the most promiscuous of all the wh*res on those websites. I always laugh whenever I come across one of them tbh (which I am happy to say is not often at all).

    "Damn dude/lady, take a break."

    Thanks for the compliment.
I can relate to that last part there. My dating life used to be a battle between two inner forces: wanting really bad to have sex and at the same time being terribly afraid of it. So I've also had dates that went exactly like that.
It seems to be a long battle for you (you were addicted to porn before it was cool! :D). I hope you are dealing with it successfully. Thanks for your comment and I wish you the best!

  5. You really shouldn't be calling them wh*res. The industry is harmful on both ends.

  6. I'm sorry but as much as I would like to include the missing letter, it would break forum rules.

  7. What? I mean you shouldn't be calling them that word. Do you realize the industry is also responsible for the abuse of countless women? We are not the only ones harmed by it.

  8. Who are you to call someone else a tumor? It's not the women's fault that porn is so addicting. Your addiction is not their responsibility. If you want to go witch-hunting, talk shit about Phub. They are the real villains.

  9. A productive, high-functioning member of society despite my -no doubt numerous- flaws and shortcomings :)

My addiction? Bold of you to assume I'm a porn addict; I am not. Guess you forgot to consider that fact ^^

I'm not hunting anything. I'm pointing out the obvious fact that these women (and men, obviously) actively decide to present themselves as commodities and they deserve every bit of what that brings back to them.

Whether these people live or die changes nothing in the world. Stocks won't fall, porn production won't decrease, covid will still be a thing, you and I will still sleep just fine. This is the life these people have chosen, for better or for worse. It's that simple.

I'd love to see these websites do anything without anyone to have seizures on camera for them.

  10. That still doesn't give you that right.

You are here, so it's not bold at all. If you're not an addict and all you're doing is insulting real, living people, then perhaps this is not the place for you.

These people have mothers, fathers, children, friends. More than that, they are living just like us and have desires, dreams, flaws, needs. I understand P is disgusting. It is not good for society. However, the Pstars are not to blame for P. Not at all. The industry exists first, the Pstars come second.

These websites actively seek out impressionable, young people, maybe even underage, and offer them lies presented like opportunities. They are manipulating vulnerable women. Do you think the majority of the actresses are in it because they enjoy it or because they were dragged into it and can't leave? Not to mention the fact that Phub hosts r*pe videos. Those women being r*ped, are they wh*res?

  11. 1. You spelled "misogyny" wrong.
    2. Also, it's against the rules to publicly declare reporting another member.
    3. You're the one who made it about women, but sure. I'm the misogynist here:

I certainly wasn't expecting the thread to turn in that direction. Some serious incel vibes right there...
I don't think demonizing anyone is helpful, so let's try to be respectful. Anyway, I certainly don't want to add anything to that discussion.
I hope more people can find my initial thoughts interesting and add to the topic :)

so was hitler and his posse ;).
when you come right down to it all they do is record themselves having sex, they just sell a commodity and don't force anyone to consume it.Same could be said of drug dealer but also of athletes, artist or doctors:D.

  16. That's one way to look at it, I'm sure, but wrong is wrong and these creatures make a living off it. However, I think you misunderstand me. I do not accuse these degenerates for any of my own shortcomings. I merely point out that whatever apparent mistreatement they (again, definitely applies to both males and females), be it prejuduce, taboos or rape, is something of an "occupational hazard" for them. Too bad, I say :)

Thank you for presenting your point in such a civilized manner, unlike the other triggered party here. We may not see eye to eye, but there's no reason for disrespect or accusations.

  18. I’d like to acknowledge the original posters comments. I agree, we accumulate so much porn related data within our memory banks and I believe it remains there, for ever. Don’t ask me where I learnt this or for references to back this statement up but I personally believe it based on a few experiences I’ve had. When I first started out looking at magazines, long before fast internet, there were a few images, one being a cartoon, that have stuck in my mind. I’m talking over 40 years ago! Every now and again these images pop back into my mind. I can be doing the most non-sexual, un-porn-related activities, and these images spring back to my memory. Why? I have no idea. Is it annoying? It sure is.

I have also learned that the more we repeat something in our minds or with our brains the firmer it gets set within our ... not sure of the word ... is it our psyche. I know this to be true for younger fully functional brains, not sure about us older folk. We seem to lose brain capacity as we age.

Anyways, interesting post. And although some took things off on a tangent, they too brought up some interesting issues. Quite controversial and contentious when we start discussing issues and ethics of pornography and its culture.
