I've been lifting (weight workout) for about 3 years now with decent results.

    Some background and timelines:

    a) I got satisfactory results from lifting, going from skinny-fat to toned
    b) for the past 18 months or so I have been battling ED /PIED
    c) I have been Porn-Free and very little Fapping for about 28 days now with great results as far as my ED / PIED is concerned

I don't have data, this is just anecdotal but: for the past 18 months my results from lifting have been disappointing, all along I thought that it was due to plateau of some sort.
In the past 2-3 weeks, after quitting porn and now that my ED/PIED is much better, I can see a lot more definition change that I have seen in the prior 18 months!
My thinking is that my Testosterone level, or most probably my available testosterone are higher than before, hence my muscle growth. I have even reached a new Personal Record on my bench press despite a minor shoulder injury!

It makes no sense since all the scientific articles on Fapping and Rebooting say that there's no change in testosterone, so I have another, personal opinion which is very non-scientific but somehow makes sense:

Porn and PMO game me ED/PIED. Erection has to do with Testosterone, blood flow, Nitric Oxide and other stuff.
Muscle growth has to do with Testosterone, blood flow, Nitric Oxide and other stuff.

If I has a problem with Erections, chances are that the same issues affected my muscle growth.
Fix the problem with Erections, fix the problem with muscle growth!

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Interesting, I am getting stronger, more definition / bigger chest, shoulders and arms, but I am binging at night because I get the munchies so I have gained a few lbs covering my abs. LOL

Eminent European medical men also support the statement of the Yogins of India. Dr. Nicole says: "It is a medical and physiological fact that the best blood in the body goes to form the elements of reproduction in both the sexes. In a pure and orderly life, this matter is reabsorbed. It goes back into circulation ready to form the finest brain, nerve and muscular tissues. This vital fluid of man carried back and diffused through his system makes him manly, strong, brave and heroic. If wasted, it leaves him effeminate, weak and physically debilitated and prone to sexual irritation and disordered function, a wretched nervous system, epilepsy, and various other diseases and death. The suspension of the use of the generative organs is attended with a notable increase of bodily and mental and spiritual vigour."
If the spermatic secretion in men is continuous, it must either be expelled or be reabsorbed. As a result of the most patient and persevering scientific investigations, it has been found that whenever the seminal secretions are conserved and thereby reabsorbed into the system, it goes towards enriching the blood and strengthening the brain. Dr. Dio Louis thinks that the conservation of this element is essential to strength of body, vigour of mind and keenness of intellect. Another writer, Dr. E.P. Miller, says: "All waste of spermatic secretions, whether voluntary or involuntary, is a direct waste of the life force. It is almost universally conceded that the choicest element of the blood enters into the composition of the spermatic secretion. If these conclusions are correct, then it follows that a chaste life is essential to man’s well-being."

I have an income. I could stop spending money, live in a basement, eat PB&J every day and save as much money as possible. My bank account will grow and grow and grow, I'll be rich, every month I could see the bottom line number get bigger and bigger and celebrate with a glass of water, tap water of course, to save money.

Or I could use that money and live my life, financially stable of course, a nice balance of trips, vacation, healthy and delicious foods.

Yin-Yang, the balance is my answer when the discussion is dominated by excesses on both sides of the spectrum; excessive fapping - especially PMO - is one extreme; so is monk life. Alas to each their own, more living and less preaching is another way of saying: live and let live!

@larrylarrylarry I think you may have misunderstood where i was going with the post. I am not against a healthy sexual life or any sensual enjoyment for that matter. I just see the huge value in my semen which i didn't realise before. I have just realised the true difference between lust and love.

    Edit:

I am a husband who looks upon all other women as mothers. I have only one woman and that is my lawfully wedded wife. There is no question of having a mistress or of even thinking of another woman anymore, she is my everything. In a total sense, my wife has only one partner in life. All other men are like her children; she has the feeling of motherhood in her heart towards all other men except me. So in actual fact a sex life does not in any way contradict a spiritual life.

I didn't get that you were talking about the true difference between lust and love because you didn't mentioned it. Metaphors are great as a way to expand on the meaning of a statement, but if you only talk in metaphors you'll be misunderstood a lot.

So, you found what works for you, and my guess - since you're still not explicit - if that you lean towards love and not sex or at least not so much. Good for you, if that works for you, kudos for you.

But trying to preach your way as the one and only way is absolutely wrong.

I believe in balance, and that works for me, if you believe in love only and no sex, that works for you.

And yet my statement to each their own that is something that is unquestionable, we can all state our opinions and difference, the moment that we preach one of our opinion as the one and only way, that's when I label someone as a troll and I click on my favorite button: IGNORE!

Great to hear from another lifter!

As a keen gym goes and weightlifter I'd love to hear more people's experiences of this.

I'm currently on a 22 day streak and have noticed results. I merely put it down to not feeling as tired and therefore having more energy to lift.

Glad you are seeing some good results mate - hopefully I will start to see them myself.

Maybe we should start track progress? Not sure best or easiest way though.

    Keep it up mate.

Like everyone else on the forum, I am just putting in my two penny's, and if you look at my response to you I was clarifying the assumptions you made. I speak of my experience, my success, my failure and I want to share that with this brotherhood, I can't apologise for that.

I started lifting a few years ago and . . . I can't recommend it enough, it's the gift that keeps on giving.

It helped me through my depression, it gave me a different body, changed my outlook in life and, last but not least, I have never eaten so much and such good food in my life.

I track my lifts every day, I have tried the various apps and find paper pad and pen to be the best. I track my weight in MyFitnessPal along with my calories/macros.

We could start a NoFap/Lifting group in here, not sure how to go about, I tried to start a new group but I don't think I have enough admin rights. Or we could start a sub on Reddit (LOL, I know, better make it by invite only).
I do have the rTribe app but find it cumbersome.

Keep lifting bro, I don't know about you, but to me it does something to my body (women love that) and to my soul as well. When I am at the gym, I am so sharp and focused, and do my best thinking.

I e been lifting for nearly 2 years and the change in my body really has given me confidence. People do notice and I have been told I look buff. I really want to bulk up more so hopefully Nofap will give me the extra boost I need. Being a vegetarian I also feel works slightly against me.

My sleep can be a bit erratic so sometimes I feel weaker - hopefully this will settle down and I will make some decent progress.

More recently I seem to have attracted the attention of another guy at the gym - not sure if he looking at the lifts I'm doing (to copy) or out of interest. Either way it gives me a buzz. Can't imagine not going to the gym and lifting now.

If Nofap can improve my progress that's a major incentive for me to carry on.

What do they say? It takes us 6 months to notice the difference when we are naked, 1 year for us to notice the difference fully clothed, and 2 years for everyone else to notice.

Will NoFap help with lifting? There might not be a direct link, but both can counteract each other.
Lifting is a good habit, and not using porn is about getting rid of a bad habit.
My personal experience is that all the situation and feelings that led me to PMO (loneliness, feeling sad, and whatnot) are not present when I am lifting at the gym: I feel alive, there's a social aspect to it, makes me feel good, and I also personally love DOMS (Delay Onset of Muscle Soreness). I enjoy the challenge of researching new workouts and tweaking the routines, advancing in terms of load, reps and sets; and the whole nutrition aspect.

You're vegetarian? That can be a challenge, but there are lots of resources out there, if you're lacto-ovo, egg protein isolate is your friend, otherwise for vegan I believe peas protein isolate is the best (double check that).
Hey, more of a challenge for you to keep yourself busy and your life busy.

    Keep on lifting!

    Thanks mate.

I've had people actually tell me I look buff. Others have said stuff like my arms look like they will burst out my sleeves.

People have also commented that my demeanour has changed and that it's like I am becoming the man I always wanted to be.

A couple of guys at work who are into fitness also regularly chat to me about it - before I started working out they didn't really show any interest in me.

The comments give me confidence and I buzz off it.

You sound really knowledgable - although I have good gains I do wonder if I am making the most of my time at gym and that I am doing the right lifts for maximum gain. I've started to do minimal reps but lift as heavy as I can. I used to do lighter wrights but more reps. I try and mix it up and keep my body guessing.

Cheers for the vegi info - I use a protein powder and eat relatively well. I love milk so that helps.

Thanks man - I intend to keep lifting and getting bigger.

    Keep up the good work!

Lifting changes your body, and serious lifters MUST change the way they eat; along the way somehow the entire outlook in life takes a new, better worldview.

What program are you doing at the gym? I am doing P.H.U.L. (link here), take a look at this Program Picker (link here) it will help you pick a routine that fits your goal and schedule.

    Thanks man! N

I'll take a look. Are you getting good results from P.H.U.L? How quickly did you see them?

I'm a bit more adhoc - I have my own routine but I'd love to try a tried and tested routine.

Just been reading up on PHUL and it's reassuring to know that I do the majority of these lifts.

I'm going to follow the programme rigidly and see what my results are like. I think it will help maximise my time at the gym as well as streamlining it - I'm sometimes there for 1.5 - 2 hrs!

Question - do you keep the weight the same on each set?

Thanks again man - brilliant resource.

All of the serious programs are centered around the major lifts: Bench Press, Overhead Press, Deadlift, and Squat; plus the accessory routines, so there are some variations and permutation but the essence is there.

Virtually anyone of the serious programs you pick will bet you to be fit/toned; the program picker is great because it guides you through.

This is GREAT article to read, it's about lifting but.... if you think about the overall principles can be applied to anything we set our minds to do in life.
