How do you know the difference? My daughter has an eating disorder and early on in her treatment, she would have bad days...she would purge and restrict, but if it didn't go on for days at a time, her therapists would define that as a "slip" and not relapse.

Is there something similar in this world too? Like if I go 18 days and then screw up once, is it a complete relapse, or just a "slip" as long as I don't follow the chaser or act out again in a certain number of days?

Seriously interested in your thoughts. I have read some articles and so, I have that perspective, but what do you guys think?

It could stay as a slip if you don't give in again or binge due to chaser after the slip but defeating chaser is even tougher than not giving in after whatever days. Chaser just makes it extra difficult as everyday becomes struggle and the fact that you have failed once keeps on bugging your mind producing guilt which along with chaser adds up to dangerous condition which almost always make one relapse again or binge.

This may help. This is from the NoFap glossary of terms:

    • Reboot: The process of restoring your brain to factory defaults. Said to take about 90 days (+/- 30 days), by anecdotal reports.
    • Relapse: For addicts, the act of returning to bad habits after a period of improvement. This is a serious word. Examples would include masturbating to porn (for a porn addict), significantly disrupting your life due to excessive masturbation (going on a 20x binge and skipping work), risky masturbation (masturbating in public), and other similarly life-disrupting activities due to an addiction.
    • Reset: Failing one of our programs/challenge. This stemmed from the act of resetting your day counter badge back to day one. If your masturbate during your challenge, this would be called a reset.
