What are your views on shaving body hair? Which of your body parts do you shave?

That questions might seem a little odd, but this topic has bothered me for a while. Let me explain.

Until today, for the past 4 or 5 months I have only shaved my facial hair. Today I decided that too much is too much and I shaved my armpits and pubic hair, which I did regularly in the past, more or less. Afterwards I got sad about it. I felt like mutilating myself a little, and it could be that I will never do it again.

It occurred to me earlier that the general tendency in western society is to losing more and more body hair, and I started wondering what will be left of it in a few decades. Will everyone start shaving their heads as well and walk around entirely bald, looking like coming right out of chemotherapy? I can't help but see in this the same tendency as fruits, vegetables and slowly even pastries being wrapped in plastic more and more in the supermarket. Everything has to be sterile, because of EEWWW, people could have TOUCHED it (a product that has been a part of something called nature once, where slugs crawl and birds shit). I am all for hygiene and everything, but making everything sterile when it is not necessary is not how our immune system works. In a way, sterility can always be associated with isolation.

During sex, pubic hair leads to a broader range of sensations. During foreplay it allows to gently caress your partner's inimate region without even touching her skin, leading to more subtlety. People claiming that you need to shave yourself down there for hygienical purposes should be told that you can wash yourself and change clothes every now and then, even daily if you like to! The same applies to the armpits. By now I am absolutely sure that shaving them will not reduce my sweat or smell. And I definitely won't shave my chest. Chest hair was considered the epitome of masculinity once. When in doubt, just take a look at some older James Bond movies.

I admit there's one thing which seems paradox, which could make me look hypocritical: I still prefer women who shave their legs and armpits (as 99.9% of women in my age will do anyway). Why? I don't know. May be it's just to remind me that not everything has to be overthought... Peace! :)

I think it is a shame that you shaved your armpits and pubic hair today. I say that partly because of the reason behind it. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems you did so because that is the current fad in society. Personally, I don't shave any body hair apart from facial hair (very occasionally) as I think stubble, moustaches and beards look good. If it isn't broke, don't fix it - right?

It is fair to say that I am in favour of a more natural look. If a guy is smooth, fine; if a guy is just hairy round his dick and under his arms, fine; if a guy is very hairy, fine. It is also a keen observation about a man's head of hair. Some are already shaving off all the hair on their head, even though they are not going bald. A 32 year old neighbour of mine did this recently. What the hell?

Another factor is the chances of a getting horny from unnecessarily handling your genitals. Before anyone protests that this is not likely, let me assure you. Several men told me that the reason why they relapsed was because of shaving their dick, balls and pubes. In all cases, this was a choice they made because of societal fashion and expectation. Sacrificing streaks this way is mad! o_O

I hope most will be able to read the spoiler text in the (spoiler) section of the opening post as it contains excellent point for this. You also say, "Afterwards I got sad about it. I felt like mutilating myself a little". This reminded me of another bunch of guys that have chosen to have their foreskin sliced off for cosmetic reasons or because they thought others thought that they ought to!

Just to add a different aspect to this discussion:

Isn't shaving down there and your underarms a healthy thing because it makes you stink and sweat less? I know that shaving these places is prescribed in some religions as well (just FYI).

I think it really depends on why you do it more so than anything.

I can tell you that I personally don't like the hair on my body at all, the facial hair is fine, but if I could I would remove everything else entirely, I've even thought of laser hair removal and stuff along those lines. When I look in the mirror I just don't like the way it looks, my body is ok (I'm not buff or anything) but the hair is just a no no as far as I'm concerned.

Is this perspective natural? like would I still feel this way if it weren't for pornography, Hollywood, and certain people telling me how gross they think it is? I honestly don't know. I'm bisexual and so I can tell you this probably a huge role in it, I guess I want to appear more feminine and because body hair is usually associated with masculinity I suppose that may be the reason.

If you are doing it just for the heck of it, or your doing it for someone else, then you are likely not going to like the looks of it too much, but if you are doing it because YOU want it removed then I say go for it.

I personally only shave my facial hair. Don't really have much of it anyway and I don't like the look when it gets to much. Like IGY says stubbles look good.
I have never once in my life shaved my armpits. I don't get why. It doesn't bother me. But again I don't have much of it so maybe for some guys it's a better option to shave.
I have shaved my pubic hair in my teens. It was just something I tried out but won't do anymore today. I don't get this whole notion of shaving pubic hair. It's just another thing the porn industry taught teens they have to do to look sexually appealing. I think pubic hair on a woman is very beautiful as it looks more mature. I never liked the shaved look.
But I agree that shaved legs look better than not shaved.

I agree, shaving pubic hair is likely a porn-led trend that started a few years ago. It is so unnecessary and in my opinion, so unattractive. For example, men who shave their pubes, armpits, treasure trail an chest hair just end up looking like late-blooming teenagers! Body hair is a secondary sex characteristic and as you mentioned indicative of sexual maturity. :)

I shave mostly everywhere except for legs, chest, head and sometimes facial hair. But Armpit hair and pubes is a must for me. I do it every so often, they have to be trimmed not for vanity reasons but for hygienic reasons.

How about the point I made before - that shaving around your genitals can become a trigger leading to masturbation?

I literally shave every part on my body. Arms , legs , back, chest , ass, pubes , stomach area i do it because i just hate seeing hair on my body, i don't see why it's a gay or feminine thing, I just genuinely think i look better without hair.

yes that makes sense, I cannot comment on that since i haven't trimmed my pits and pubic area since I started nofap, its been a month and its actually that time of the month where I normally would do so. I use an electric trimmer not a razor. Oh and just like the other guy about I don't completely trim off my beard either, I hate clean shaven cause Im so used to having hair there, its not a full grown beard but its a goatee I wear with honour lol

Porn makes you want to shave all hair parts.

    Because it's not natural.

I guess just wait. The older you get the more body hair you should get. I'd prefer to get some more facial hair and some chest hair. Too hairy isn't that great either, I imagine. I don't really need hair on my back and a lot of body hair also means a higher chance of male pattern baldness.
I don't know if there are any natural ways to boost body hair. It probably comes down to genetics and age mostly.

I honestly don't see any connection between P and shaving. I have always shaved down there and my armpits. It feels good, light and airy. Since I joined NoFap, I haven't relapsed but I have shaved, and I can attest that I didn't feel inclined to M while shaving. That's just me and I know everyone's different, but reading this thread made me feel a bit ostracised since everybody seems to think that it's good and "manly" to be hairy. As a secondary point, I reckon too much hair would be off-putting to the female as well, though I've never had sex so I wouldn't know for sure.
