Just wanna share a bit of what I learned during 5 years of my life - some 17 year old boy :)

So for 5 years now, I’ve been masturbating and watching porn almost daily. Realizing that I feel like a waste. Imagine what I could've done with those daily 1-2 hours of time, for 5 years. I could’ve been a pro musician. I could’ve been a pro programmer. I could’ve spoken 5 languages fluently by now.

Then I realized how my sleep schedule has changed ever since 2 months ago. I used to sleep at 9 or 10 pm at max, but now I keep staying up late and sleep until the clock shows 1 am. Definitely not good. Imagine what I could do with those 3 hours daily, for 2 months.

The point is, I need to really stop wasting time, and do something with my life, or else I would regret it. Putting those years into numbers, imagine 5 years, 1-2 hours daily, which means 365 * 5 * 2 is equal to 3650 hours.. Plus those 3 hours daily for 2 months, equals to 60 * 3 = 180 hours. Add them and I got 3830 hours wasted in my lifetime, doing something useless.

So from now on, I want everyone, including myself, to start thinking about what actually matters in your life, including little things, like spending some time with your family, reading a book, talking with people of different age, etc.

Since I am still a freshman in university, I still got 4 years to spend in formal education and there is definitely a lot of time to make use of, for a better change. Since my eternal goal is to feel alive and be happy, I better make use these 4 years of my life fully, so that I could graduate knowing I did my best, having no regrets whatsoever.

One thing I learned earlier today is that you can never satisfy everyone. There will always be people who aren’t meant to be in your favor, and you can’t change that. The only thing you can change is yourself, how you look at things, how you do things, how you let bad things come to you or will you only attract the good? One more thing, you can never support other people, making them happy, if you can’t even get hold of yourself, doing well in life yourself. So, never feel bad for not being able to help others, but feel bad if you can’t properly take care of yourself. Put yourself above others, that way you will be happy and be able to help others too.

Knowing that I definitely had the time to do things, but spent them on stupid stuff such as social media, masturbating, and watching porn, I’m gonna state down my goals and do things to reach them. These are my goals:

    1. Speak english and mandarin fluently

    2. Get good at programming

    3. Start sleeping early, waking up early, and eating healthy

    4. Stop masturbating and watching porn

    5. Know what kind of work to do in the future (related to my major)

Thank you for reading, I wish everybody including myself good luck!! Bye :)

What do you like about programming? :) I want to try learning it. Also, what do you plan to go to school for?

I'm still new to the programming world, but I like how it teaches our mind to think. It is full of logical step by step algorithm in order to create something out of codes, it's really fun! Well, since I have nothing to do after graduating high school, I attended university a few months ago, and hopefully this opportunity will bring me some skills I probably need in the future :)

Thanks for this. Today I woke up at 11am thanks to pmo, and decided I really wanted to read something positive to put my mind in the right place (I mean it’s Halloween). I’m a college first-year too, and pmo is so toxic. It makes me socially anxious, drowns my confidence, spoils my work routine, and in general makes me shy away from branching out—all things that would make my college experience better. What you said about self-love is on point... without self-respect, I find it really hard to make new, lasting friends. This first semester has been rough for me, but I know that there’s light at the end of the tunnel if I prioritize what makes me happy and cut out the habits (midnight Netflix, social media, desserts, procrastination, etc...) that leave me vulnerable to pmo. I know you’ll check off each of those goals!!! Good luck with the rest of the semester :)

Is programming similar to Math, or different?

It is totally different haha.. but we do learn maths too as a tool to sharpen our logical thinking skills.
