Hey guys.. Just as the title says i wanted to get some opinions on what people think a porn addict is? somebody who watches it daily? Somebody who watches it a few times a week? Somebody who watches it hours on end or the guy who every now and then likes to look at it and then goes through 30 and 60 days detox? If you are in control of your porn use are you still addicted? I had a really strong urge and then i just decided not to but i wanna know how people think on here? Also what if someone isn't in a relationship are they better off with no porn at all? Thoughts???

If you WANT to stop watching it but you can't, you are an addict.

I consider myself an addict. I used to watch porn every single day. I was addicted.

Now in the last 60 days I've watched porn twice.

Most people would consider that a person who only smokes 2 cigarettes in 60 days is not an addict.

I however still consider myself to be addicted because I crave porn still.

I've never smoked a cigarette in my life. I go all day every single day never thinking about a cigarette, let alone wanting one.

When I think the same about porn, then I will consider myself no longer addicted... but will I ever feel like that? I doubt it. I know smokers who haven't had a cigerette in 6 years but they still want one.

I'm starting to believe it's impossible to watch porn and not become an addict, in the same way many people who tried heroin became addicts. Millions of people who watch porn, no matter how infrequently are probably addicts without realising because they never actually tried to stop. It was only when I tried to stop that I realised I was addicted.

Thank you guys so far for your honesty and being open, I do think that the average porn consumer (a few times a week) but still is fine in other aspects of life and doesn't ever actually get huge urges is okay, Same as the person who chooses when to detox and when to watch it, When you have control over it and your mind i don't consider you an addict i just see you as someone who from time to time likes to watch porn (Not judging) Over these 32 days i have had urges and sometimes i do wanna watch but then i just tell myself no and i was cool whereas my previous attempts to stop watching i told myself a false no, I won't have sex until I'm married and I'm glad i started way before that even happens but from what i read so far and what my personal experiences have taught me is at least 30+ days of no PMO should put you on the right track for reset, Before i changed my lifestyle i remember i didn't watch porn or orgasm for a while, I was on a "Dry spell" but when i eventually did have sex (After over a month of no PMO) it was one of the best times i'd ever had, I think control is so key.

My definition is simply "Someone who can't/won't stop watching porn, despite it having negative consequences in their life".

Yes, it's that simple. If you've found that watching porn has destroyed your relationships, has destroyed your drive to get into relationships, has wasted copious amounts of time, has interfered with your career or any one of a number of other issues, yet you still don't stop, you're addicted.

I also tend to think we remain addicts for a long time even after we stop, simply because if we watch porn again, we could quite easily go back down that rabbit hole. This effect could last for years after we stop, maybe even for the rest of our lives.

This right here. If you want to see if you're addicted to porn, try to stop watching it for 1 week. If you can't go that long, you're addicted. I'm about to hit day 5 of no PM and today is super difficult. Everything in my body is telling me to PM, that it's okay, it'll be fun, it'll make you feel good, etc. This kind of thinking is typical of addicts. Replace porn in those thought processes with alcohol or heroin and it's obvious it's an addiction. If you can't stop without experiencing withdrawal and anxiety, you're addicted.
