Hi al, I've just started this and am 6 days into my reboot. My question is I have been a smoker for 13 years (about 20 a day) and although I want to quit, I am not quite ready now. As nicotine releases dopamine, will continuing to smoke whilst obtaining from PMO and sex affect my ability to successfully reboot?

I am a smoker too but luckily I don't smoke as many as you do. Smoking is another addiction and I want to deal with it separately. For me, trying to tackling all the negative habits all at once is overwhelming. I am trying to tackle one negative habit at a time. However, it is possible, while I am not doing PMO and other sexual activities, I might indulge in other habits too much. It doesn't mean if I am not getting my fix from PMO and prostitute, I go and smoke 50 cigarettes to distract myself.

In reboot, it is always best to avoid anything that releases the differnt chemicals in our brain. But, it is better to not be too harsh and try to uproot all negative things at once. It is good to be able to finish off everything at once but not a lot of people can keep up and sooner or later crash coz they pushed themselves too hard and too fast. Focusing on one addiction at a time is a good idea. We need a lot of other healthy outlets while in recovery. I have noticed that when I exercise and run, it makes me smoke less. Hope that helped.

Nicotine causes erectile dysfunction. When I started my recovery I smoked, a lot. I only focused on quitting PMO. That one positive change will be the building block to make overcoming other parts of your life easier to change. Take it one step at a time, one day at a time. Do not swap out one addiction for another. Make character changes to overcome all of your addictions.

I think it depends what you want to prioritise, but I think you should only do one at a time, because you're going to end up relying a lot more on one of those addictions to help yourself. If you stop PMO'ing I can bet you will smoke a lot more, once you get over the PMO, you should work on the smoking.

I think rehabiliation centres encourage smokers who're undergoing drug treatment to smoke during the process. I think it channels the addictive cravings into one, thus the final goal is to have no addiction through the process of elimination
