Hey guys, it's ok to play videogames when you have big urges, for about an hour?
We know what boredom can do...

If videogames doesn't become an addiction then fine. But for me, I find myself too hooked up and better of doing something else instead, like exercise. For me, exercise deals with urges better than gaming, and gives several benefits like more energy and better confidence, so together with nofap the effects are great! Now I'm hooked at this forum instead, no good...

I play a lot of videogames to curb urges and generally it works but it depends on the game. If I play a competitive game where I really have to focus I can throw myself into it and forget about the urges. However in my opinion it's important to fight the urges head on by training your mind to immediately dismiss them, instead of using some other activity as a distraction. Distracting myself only worked for a time, at least in my experience.

It's a good way infact but keep away from the video games that have some erotic scenes them e.g witcher, metal gear solids etc :D best of luck.

Video games won't work. They won't help you heal your emotional wounds. I'm an addicted, trust me.

For me, video games only made my urges worse. I think for a while, it was a effective distraction and it did take my mind off pmo, but not in a healthy way. The distraction only lasted so long before the urges came back much higher than before I started playing video games.

Video games allowed me to escape from my problems for a while, but it was all escapism. I was ignoring my pmo problems rather than solving it.

I totally agree with some of the guys above, video games just put you in a whole new world of addiction and have few positive impacts on your life. I used to be a big gamer and it just drew me closer and closer to PMO, as through increasing your computer time, you're ultimately increasing the amount of triggers you're exposed to. In short, I'd take up a healthy alternative, like learning a sport.

  10. I thought I could replace porn with video games, too. I´ve played 68 hours in the last 3 weeks (weekends not included). That´s 4 hours a day!
And guess what, I relapsed yesterday.

You can not replace one addiction with another. And for me gaming is similar to porn. Just easier to stay away from. But once I started, I just can´t get enough.

Gaming can produce the same spikes in dopamine that porn can. It's not surprising that you find gaming to be a worthy alternative to P. But like others have said, it's very, very easy for gaming to become its own addiction. If you find yourself spending way more time gaming than you originally plan to, or if you find that your regular responsibilities start to slip because of it--I'd start pulling back.

  12. I would not even start.

Video games are just a fast forward button for time. You start playing and suddenly it´s 5 hours later.
All this time I´ve wasted playing video games. Thousands of hours, hundreds of days...
I don´t even want to think about it. What I could have achieved in this time...

Do something meaningful with your life! I know it´s hard, but definitely worth it! Your future self will thank you for this.

  13. Yeah, I definitely noticed that my reflexes are still pretty awesome from all the shooters I´ve been playing. But that´s probably the only advantage. And speaking to random people, well that´s just not an argument. You can do that on facebook too if you want (or chaturbate for that matter!)

  14. You know what would be even more awesome? Visiting those countries.
But you can´t do that while playing video games.
    Another thing I regret.

I think building your habits and hobbits would be much better. You could draw instead of spending 5 of hours in front of a computer screen playing video games.

  16. I play video games, in fact I love video games, however I also am careful to balance it with my life. I also go to work all day, see friends when I can, read books, make scale models, listen to music and watch films. So i think it's a good distraction method so long as you don't allow it to become an overwhelming factor in your life.

Agree with a lot of guys above in the no-gaming camp. At least for me, I get a similar headspace from zoning into a game that isn't helpful for being present and mindful; the things I need to do in order to overcome PMO. In fact I attribute a lot of my constant relapse behavior to just not having the will to take a hard enough stance on various "minor" behaviors like reading fiction and playing video games.

Video games work as a distraction for me when I'm struggling bad, I have always wanted to use working out as a substitute, but I've never had the energy or motivation.

Then I made a deal with myself.

I would play online shooters, and every time I die, I do 5 push-ups. And I have to say that based on how bad I am at online games, my fitness level has definitely improved. And I'm tired afterwards and sleep great without lying awake at night trying to fight the urges.

I tried the video game, then I ended up pouring hours into it, I mean like 6-8 hours at a time, I still play whenever I can , but not as much, then it kind of didn't work for me because I found myself alone for hours playing video games then I would pmo, so I bought a laptop to go mobile 2 months ago that I've hardly played, so guess what tells me, my brains subconscious was telling me to play video games so I would pmo, just my take on what the end result is when I was hours on my favorite games. Video games can never fill the void of porn and masturbation for me
