What's interesting about this thread and the ranks given, is the Hobbit rank is given at day 15 and The White Wizard is a very high rank, but when it comes to the temptation of the ring, Hobbits are shown to be the most resilient to it's seductive power. Granted Frodo does succumb eventually, but Bilbo and Sam both willingly give up the ring during the course of the story. A long streak free of PMO could have had the title "Samwise the Brave" etc Faramir is also another great example as he lets the ring go too (In the books this is more impressive than the film) Anyway. I love this thread and I understand it's well established so I don't expect you to change anything, I just wanted to add my thoughts
Good idea ,Tom Bombadil can be other one, i love that character his mysterious origin and his humble, he doesn't affect by the ring too
Thanks bro! And I also find anger to be quite useful sometimes, especially when I need to do hard stuff, hahah
Wow! Nice reflection! We cannot lose the simplicity of our goals through the reboot process. "Courage is found in unlikely places"
2 days. Some urges last night. Feeling a bit rough this morning. Think I slept in a funny position last night. But it’s ok. Time to get up. Travel back to work today. Been a decent week off.
also applied to brother @Onan the Barbarian i think the problem is still the indulgence on these dopamine induced bombs. sweets, alcohol and junk food create the dopamine rushs that the brain is wired on because of our addiction to porn. so even if you eat those things in broad daylight, the urges would still appear. i think the key here is moderation, try to consume those things only in specific situations and in moderation. and if you find that it messes up with your sleep, it´s better not eat them at night
You could also make the argument that The White Wizard still deserves to be the top rank though because Gandalf, Galadriel, and other characters too are powerful enough amd wise enough that they could actually use the ring to do good. But they don't because they know it's better that men have the power to make their own choices, for good or evil, than to be coerced to do good. How does this apply to pmo? Well, Frodo wouldn't have taken on the quest to destroy the ring unless the mission had been reluctantly given to him by Gandalf. In a similar way, I think people who reach the white wizard rank and above have an obligation to encourage people still struggling. @Alex_Al is a great example of this actually as he checks in on occasion for the that sole purpose. As an aside, if you wanted to make an alternative character the highest rank my vote would have to be for Tom Bombadil because he's an og that couldn't care less about the ring. It literally has no power over him. He can put it on without turning invisible and laugh at it. He also can basically dick slap every other foe in the third age if they come near his little forest. It would also be kind of poetic because we start out as hobbits and the last rank, if it were Bombadil, would place people who've completed the challenge near the Shire back near the beginning. Kinda like they're sending off people just overcoming their addiction.
Haha, I didn't scroll down far enough to see your reply before I nerded out amd wrote mine. Glad I'm not the only one to think of it.
it happens bro. i understand you perfectly, i felt that binging and lack of control many times. accept it, but create a binging prevention system. this tecnique is crucial to prevent binging hell after a slip. here´s a little help
thank you brother, yeah , both Bilbo and Frodo had a hard time with the ring, Bildo wanted to take the ring with him "why shouldn´t i keep it?" and Frodo wear it many times. in the end it was not even Frodo who destroyed the ring, but Gollum that fell into the lava with the ring after a fight. so Frodo did all that hard journey but couldn´t destroy the ring when the time comes. this shows the tremendous power the One Ring had over people. even Gandalf was afraid to accept the ring, and Galadriel had some doubts about it. Of all the people who had contact with it, Sam was indeed one of the most resilient characters to it´s spell. he actually carry it and gave it away when asked Samwise the Brave But the ranks are not based around the strongest person that could endure the spell of the ring. the ranks are based on the representation that those characters have in terms of greatness. The White Wizard is one of the Guardians of Middle Earth, so i guess that should be appropriate for the ultimate rebooter but, of course, all kinds of configurations are possible . in fact, inicially the highest rank was the High King so, as you can see, there´s plenty to choose from in the Middle Earth universe. in the end, it´s a personal exercise, as many members identify more with some characters than with others.
Very true! Though I would counter this slightly be saying that Bilbo, though certainly forever changed by the Ring, Did give it up, he may have needed a gentle nudge from Gandalf but he still chose to walk away from it, unlike Frodo (poor Frodo). Bilbo had the ring in his keeping for 60 years, it's incredible to think he could willingly walk away from it after that, even with some hesitation.
yeah, but he did struggle . that´s what i´m saying. the only Hobbit that didn´t hold on to the ring was Sam, all the others had their struggles. so indeed, the power of the One ring is an excellent metaphor for the power of an addiction, i believe. however in terms of fairness, Frodo did succumb much faster to the power of the ring than Bilbo, though they had completely different contexts and missions
