How long should a fapstronaut be on these forums?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Lazarus Shuttlesworth, Oct 6, 2017.

  1. I feel like once you are "rebooted" and can control your urges a lot better than being on these forums is kind of counterproductive in a way. Do you guys agree?

  2. Yeah I guess they are. I spend a lot of time on here, probably more than I should. I feel relatively well rebooted but then again I get urges from time to time. I guess I should try to go out of the house and actually live life but after thinking things over, I don't really think I have that much options. I should start by probably trying to limit my time on here.

  3. No, I do not agree. When I achieved 243 hard mode last year, I considered myself rebooted - 8 months for an old guy, right? But I stumbled and have been stumbling since. In any case, this year has been pants (UK) i.e underpants! o_O

But rebooted or not, I feel I can accomplish much good here, which I endeavour to do. So, it is important for me to do something worthwhile and remain at the coal face and encourage and even advise other members of the community. :)

It really all depends on you, broseph. These forums are a tool for recovery, and for many they are a tool to maintain that recovery. Yet, this is a YMMV situation, so maybe try taking a break form the forums and see what happens. If you find yourself happier and more productive then you have your answer. Plus it's not like the forums are going anywhere anytime soon and I'm sure the people here would welcome you back with open arms.

Sometimes it's good to take a break from everything just to get centered.

    Bless Up.

Yes, while trying to quit an addiction is easy to fall in "mindless internet browsing". One would think the problem is the fórum but actually the problem lies in oneself. Lack of properly scheduling our time and activities. Too much free time.

The solution? Internet filter, I truly recommend Stayfocusd, it´s a google chrome extension where you can limit the time you spend in time waster sites. Once you remove the time waster sites, it´s important to incorpórate habits, hobbies or work to replace all the time we spend while "mindlessly surfing".
Write your journal entries on Microsoft Word (or any text writting software) and the copy paste it in your journal, that way your spend even less time in the fórum.

Somewhat, being here means you are constantly reminded of your addiction. If you feel you’ve gotten past it and want to go with your life without thinking about this issue all the time, then it’s time to move on.

It's hard to say when someone is actually rebooted, or when someone has actually overcome an addiction. I think I need to stay vigilant about this habit for the rest of my life. The day I become complacent is most likely the day I relapse. Porn will always be only a few keystrokes and clicks away.

At the most, 20 minutes.... and then that twice a day.

  9. Yes and no, it can become counterproductive being on these forums but it doesn't necessarily have to. I definitely think the benefits have far surpassed the deficits in my circumstance, and that there are many things that can be learned from the experiences of others on here -- even after a years free of Porn and Masturbation.

There's always more to learn and to apply -- that's the beauty of being here and living too. Also, it all depends on the individual whether they consider themselves ready to leave or not -- that's a decision for them to make if (or when) the time comes.

Crikey, how much time do you spend on all those sites?

  11. I think these forums can become an addiction themselves if we're not careful. There have been times when I meant to spend 3 minutes seeing what happening on the site and end up staying here for 3 hours. I've started my university course today and now don't too much time for spending such time on here. Plus I'll be doing some volunteering work for charity. I'm trying to limit myself to just a few times a week. Right now I'm on break so I'm free to be on here

I think once you've rebooted it's ok to come here so you can help other people but there needs to be boundaries. You don't want to be so absorbed that you start thinking like an addict again.

BTW, for me rebooting is less about your actions and more about how you think. You can be free from porn but still have the mentality of porn addict, in the way you view women and in your attitude towards life.

  12. Wow, this is so true. I never thought about porn addiction like this. Thanks for showing me another perspective.

I think after a good reboot a healthy way to spend time on this site is to focus on helping others. In this way you can both be a blessing to others and stay focused on your NOFAP goals.

  18. To me it's not counterproductive, as long as you do the stuff you're supposed to do everyday it shouldn't matter how much time you spend on here or anywhere else. At least for me instead of clicking on P or checking Facebook all day I just come here and it's helped tremendously.

I'll probably ween off as I get better and have more energy but I'll still come back.
