Controlling ones mind has to be done gently and with patience. You and your mind have to be on the same team and want the same things. Setting hard, cold rules and making demands about what you can think will literally drive you out of your mind. Meditation and mindfulness could be helpful. Even just thinking deeply about what you want, thinking things through in a meditative kind of way can pull you together.
