    Hi everyone

I'm new here. I know I need to stop, but even the first day is a struggle for me. I always think 'I'll give up tomorrow', which of course never comes.

In the last few weeks I've managed a few days but then always fall off. It's been three days now, but I'm *this close* to just doing it, just once, before giving up properly. I imagine this is common? How have people overcome this?

    Thank you

    JTH

Hey there bud. Welcome to the community.

There are a couple of things you need to do when you start this journey. First off, you need to decide on a reason for doing this. Whenever you feel like relapsing, remember why you started. Also, stop focusing on quitting PMO. Focus more on creating new, better habit, like working out, reading, etc.

And the last bit of advice I can give you is learn to enjoy cold showers. Whenever urges hit, go get in a cold shower. 5 minutes, and I guarantee the urge will be gone.

Good luck dude and stay strong.

Welcome man, I'm on my first try on day 4 now! It isn't to hard for me at this time, but i reckon the hard part is still to come. See it as The One Ring, you don't want to be an Isildur who keeps The Ring for himself at the moment he stands before the Cracks of Doom inside of Mount Doom. Just throw it in the fire Frodo! And then, when the Smeagol inside you is keep giving you cravings, throw that bastard in the fucking fire with that worthless ring!

Cold showers are awesome too by the way, I didn't use them for getting rid of cravings (because I didn't have cravings in this first few days), but you just can feel the health benefits when you keep taking cold showers. I felt the real benefits in as short as two weeks when I started taking cold showers!

Hey thanks a lot both. Sounds like good advice to start new habits heyitshannes.

Samwise_Gamgee, I don't know Lord of the Rings, but might give cold showers a go, thanks!

Haha, no problem jonny, just wanted to help and make a fancy reference in the meanwhile. Good luck with the cold showers, keep pushing the boundary!

Another good idea is to make a list of triggers and write down next to them something you'll do instead of PMO. For example:

When I am bored in the past I have PMO'd. Now when I am bored I will learn to play guitar (or whatever you choose).

This also reminds you of different triggers for you. Like one of my triggers is the thought 'this is the hardest thing I will ever have to do so it’s fine to fail a couple of times'. Lol obviously just my brain trying to rationalise so it can get its fix. But now I know that's what my brain will say it's easier to spot it when it shows up...

Samwise, with all the free time I'm gong to have maybe I'll read Lord of the Rings... then I'll get it!

EagleHeart, that's a really good idea. As soon as I'm bored/struggle with work in some way, my first instinct is to PMO. Which is partly why it's so hard. I should have a list of things to do when that happens (today I've come on here every time it happens).

So far for me (and it's only been about a week) I've noticed that all the time that I used to waste being on online dating websites (and related porn and web cam), has now been channeled into other 'social' websites like facebook and nofap. So while I've stopped some of the things I wanted to, the energy hasn't been channeled into the places I wanted. So I'm observing and aware of what is happening, but also being kind to myself - I figure translating some of the energy that used to go into PMO into social media instead is kind of like a methadone program - still not what I want to be doing with my time, but a useful step forward.

What I hate is, before you do it, nothing else seems possible, but as soon as you PMO you get complete clarity and realise how pointless it was to do it.

That is what i honestly think too. If you went a whole week or x amount of days without giving in, for me it usually comes unexpectedly and I think "hmm.. I haven't done it in a while" and I just completely lose the streak in a blink of an eye.

I've been doing great except the last few days and now I need to shape up because I am breaking my routine and it is just so easy to slip. It's scary.

Well, if you search for Porn you are sitting in your own little fantasy world and get no benefit.

At least social media/nofap js a social site you can mingle with people and help out. There is a benefit to it so I see nothing wrong with that.

As you said - as long as you don't waste time in your old ways is great.
