  2. No, there is not a single unbiased 100% properly conducted study to support this statement. You can choose to believe the hype (whether you are into the side of porn companies being the do-gooders and helping world fight cancer, or you side with us- people who say their are better things in life than sit in front of a screen and wank away your free time), or you can be a sensible person who lives a best possible life, doing the things he loves etc. The choice is yours, and you shouldn't blindly make it just because of some study saying XYZ. Do your own research and think critically.

    Umm.. Not quite man.

    @Chizzzzzz44
To answer your question, No, There is no SOLID proof, ie no Large scale studies.
But you try to think for yourself, Does it make sense?

I'm not sure... Honestly, that's the only thing that holds me back about NoFap. I know there are physical and mental benefits (I'm actually over 20 days of NoFap hardmode, so I'm not trolling), but the thought of developing prostate cancer due to not masturbating (something so simple, so easy, literally at your hands) frightens me. what if regular and consistent masturbation really is necessary to decrease the chances of it in a man's late stage of life? I think discussions like this are extremely important, especially when there are very few reliable information about it on the Internet

@Chizzzzzz44 I don't agree with @MuscularSherlockHolmes here, I think the paper I talk about in my old thread Ejaculation Frequency and Risk of Prostate Cancer is unbiased, scientific, and not hype. They do find a correlation between ejaculation frequency and the risk of prostate cancer. There are issues with the paper, but it is real research. For me the biggest issue is the effect size. The correlation is significant in the statastician's sense of the word, but not significant in the way we'd use the term, because the increased risk is tiny.

Also if I recall correctly it only applied to men 50+

  8. Let me preach you a scientific gospel... Correlation does not mean causation!

I agree with the rest of your post.

How many people have you seen on NoFap having prostate cancer?

I agree with everything that @MuscularSherlockHolmes has said here.

Proving causation is hard. Ignoring or dismissing correlation is, in my opinion, unwise since it is often the first step towards proving causation. We have to exercise common sense. In modern times there is a strong correlation between piracy at sea and the number of sociology professors working in universities. That's clearly not causation in either direction. But if some studies show a correlation between ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer then I think we should take them seriously and not dismiss them as hype, because the path from correlation to causation seems intuitively plausible.

Think about it statistically, NoFap has zero effect on prostate cancer.

14% of men will get prostate cancer sometime in their lifetime. Ejaculation reduces the chances of prostate cancer by 36%.

    (.14)(.36) = 5%

Meaning the chances you will develop prostate cancer is increased by 5%.

But consider 60% of prostate cancer cases are in men aged 65 or older.

And also, out of all cancers prostate cancer has an extremely low mortality rate of 0.8%. Compare with lung cancer at 83.4% and pancreatic cancer at 93%. Even breast cancer has a higher mortality rate (10.8%).

(.05)(.008) = .0004 [risk of dying to prostate cancer because of NoFap increased by 0.04%]

With all this in mind, the chances of you dying because you are not fapping is fapstronomically low so don't worry.

A 0.04% increase in risk of dying is low, but it is not zero. Some people follow Dave Brailsford's rule of marginal gains, i.e. if you are careful to stack up enough marginal gains the result is significant. For example, he made cyclists use hand sanitiser before and after training. It had very little effect but did slightly reduce their time off from illness, so it was worth doing.

Where did you (or "MidOFeed on Reddit") get this figure?

If we talk about it basically, it is estimated to pretty much zero. On the other hand, I, personally have never seen anybody on NoFap get prostate cancer. Look at the calculation properly, besides, is this even a matter worth discussing?

A NoFap lifestyle is much better than a 0.04% risk of dying. Literally driving on the road has more risk of dying than that.

Whaat? Either this calculation is wrong, or I don’t get it.
    Let’s call a Statistician,
@FellatiousD Man, Break it down for me?

  17. He doesn't cite any sources. I don't need to break down anything. Also, many of those assumptions are unfounded, including his assumption that NoFap = not ejaculating. Everyone ejaculates at some point - NoFap or not. It's called wet dreams/leakage. Another flawed assumption is that he's making inferences about individuals based on averages. Not every person has a 14% risk of getting prostate cancer by default. That is a population average (assuming it's even the correct number).

In general, I try to avoid statistics that I don't know the context of. By the way, there are plenty of arguments to be made in favor of NoFap without getting into details like this. NoFap is overwhelmingly positive for people who have compulsive PMO issues.

Even if we assumed the data was correct, I don’t understand the Calculations.:emoji_sweat_smile:

  19. You would have to start by finding the studies to support that data, but if you really want to reduce your risk of prostate cancer...

"Prostate Cancer. In a large U.S. study, compared to non-vegetarians, men following a vegan diet were 35 percent less likely to develop prostate cancer. In this group of men, vegan diets were the only form of vegetarian diet linked with lower prostate cancer, and this association remained even after adjusting results of the analysis for weight. There was a trend for lower risk of advanced forms of prostate cancer, the types of greatest health threat, but the link was less clear than for overall prostate cancer."
