The Dopamine switch

  1. Hi everyone.

    Right now in my life I can't even get threw one day of NoFap. Yes you heard me right. My mind has been in a dark place it feels like and I've just lost the grip on life. No luck anywhere with woman, stuck with the same job and awkward tendencies I have. I'm realizing that my mind is just used to my routine. My dopamine receptors don't want anything else and yes I can't enjoy my old passion for making music or talking to woman.

    My main question for this forum is how do I gradually switch my dopamine to the excitement of something else? How do I make porn boring for myself have something else more exciting and enrichment to me? I've heard of dopamine fasting before, but I can't really afford to just drink water for three+ days straight since I have a very physical job that involves lifting, bending, and reaching. Eating is a must for me so I don't faint on the job or etc.. If anyone can help I greatly appreciate it.

    Doing well on NoFap has a lot to do with external factors other than simply abstaining. In a sense its not really about how many days you go, but the mindset you develop along the way. Allowing whether you are on a streak or not to dictate your mood is self defeating because its just one of many factors that factor into our wellbeing. I feel like you still have the attitude that NoFap is an end into itself and not just one tool among many that can be used to improve yourself.

    Now to actually try and answer the question, I really think the simple and obvious solutions are the best. To this end I recommend you limit your exposure to things that take up a lot of time but offer no real value, for example most videogames and things along those lines, and start trying to expose yourself to more fulfilling things. Read books, go out in nature, exercise, eat healthy, take the time to do things that you might otherwise not do because you are sat at home watching porn. These are all platitudes but they genuinely do work, you just need to apply some discipline to make them work. As someone who really suffers with finding most things boring and unappealing, I understand where you are coming from, but you still have to try.
