I know a bunch of people who watch P and masturbate on regular basis (they communicated this with me in private discussions), yet they're still successful at life and with women, have hot girlfriends, are confident, positive and never get struck with depression or anxiety.

So, what do we have here? Here we are, the whole online forum of guys who got damaged by P and now suffer with withdrawals and struggle to quit; and there are guys whose P consumption is absolutely the same, yet it did nothing to them, no damage. These are the type of guys who deny the benefits of NoFap — because they never got damaged by PMO and simply never had the chance to learn what it’s all about.

My question is: does P indeed affects people differently, and do there really exist guys who can PMO on regular basis and walk away with no damage? Do people have predispositions to receive or not receive the bad effects of P? Is there any science behind this?

  2. Did they say how long they PMO? One factor i think could be how long the sessions are. If they do it for 10min mayby its not affecting them so much while
hardcore addicts mayby do it for an hour. Edging on and off while watching countless clips.

Like its not so bad taking a drink a few times a week but drinking the whole bottle at the time is way worse. No clue if thats the case but it could be a factor.

When i PMO:d i go for hours some times, edging to the limit. Maximizing and prolonging the dopamin rush as long i could watching probably up to hundred clips.

A nice insight actually. Definitely one of the key factors. They did their dirty business within 10-15 minutes. I used to edge for 2-3 hours always.

    I suspect so.

Those are some symptoms of porn addiction, but they are not everyone's symptoms.

There's another class of men you do not mention, those who either never use porn or just grow out of it, those who put it aside when they start dating real women and don't really think about porn again.

The same is true of alcohol. Some heavy drinkers are not addicted, and some light drinkers are.

My worry is that this is too abstract — some people are addicted to porn and some are not. In any case porn use is (I believe) wrong. The important thing is that I have recognised the addiction in myself and I have come here to overcome it.

In my opinion, it affects everyone but some are affected much more than others.

That's a very good question I've wondered myself. Then again ANYTHING that can be addictive doesn't affect everyone. Some people can have a couple of strong drinks and stop. Some people become alcoholics. It might affect some more than others and some people are more prone to addictions

  7. It is interesting question. I remember there was an interview with some male adult star long time ago, and the question was what amount of p is considered not to be addiction. I think he answered:" If you watch it on sunday's a half an hour like football or some sport, then it is not an addiction a mere entertainment". Funny how they asked the p star about opinion, and i thought it would be interesting to mentioned it.
Trying to find analogy here, but the less you use it, the less of an issue it is. It can become problem, if one becomes preocupied with it, and it starts to hinder social and love life, work or psychological well being.
Given the information, different people have different perspectives as well probably some emotional issue that makes them dwell more on it.

Some people can handle alcohol. Some cannot.
Some people can handle drugs. Some cannot
Some people can handle gambling. Some cannot
Some people can handle sex. Some cannot
Some people can handle PMO. Some cannot.

Less and less people are reporting as addicted to P in part I suspect because of forums like this. Obviously, addition to High Speed Internet Porn was not possible until the invention of High Speed Internet Porn, which is relatively recent. Before its invention, no addiction, before the addiction, no forums. Now people know it can happen, and so more are avoiding it actually happening.

    Peace.

I don't think anyone can consume pornography without it affecting them negatively. But I also think different people have different levels of susceptibility to porn addiction.

There's a great line in the movie Lord of War where the main character watches his brother die as a result of drug addiction and thinks to himself,

"I never understood what separated the recreational drug user from the habitual, the functional addict from the dysfunctional. But for the grace of God, it could have been me snorting lines as long as the Belt Parkway."

I think of that a lot with regards to addictive behavior. Some people are absolute junkies. Some can do coke one time and not miss it. I'm sure there are people who see porn and fall all the way down the rabbit hole over night, and others who see it and can't understand the appeal.

I'm sure it's a bell curve like most things biological in nature. Some at each extreme, most in the middle. But everyone is affected to some degree.

Hmm, do you really think this is true? I think most find this forum after they realise they might have a problem, not before.

Personally, I've PMO'd for 6 years, my sessions lasted no longer than an hour, didn't do it every single day, never got into really extreme stuff. My grades in school never suffered, was still doing well in life, keeping things moving. Humbly, I'd consider myself successful in an academic and career sense. Yet here I am on this site.

Just because people can function with porn doesn't mean they should. It has serious potential into becoming a destructive habit that lies in the shadows and reveals itself when it's too late. I carry a lot of shame from what I've seen and done, as porn is unclean and a subversion of righteous and healthy sexuality. Those people you know will suffer down the line, not saying that because I want them to, but because that's the nature of the beast. It's only a matter of time until you become fully enslaved to your lusts, porn is a doorway.

This is an imperative step in self improvement, controlling yourself. If someone watched porn, they lack self control. Plain and simple. You mean to tell me your needs are that strong you have to watch something as vile as pornography?

I know this scripture has spiritual implications, but this can be applied to self improvement as well. Don't look at everyone else:

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
    Matthew 7:13-14

    @OhWhenThe

I think of the forum as broader than just a tool to help overcome the problem. I think of the forum as a place where everyone can be educated about the problem. You know what they say: Get Educated, Get Tools, and Learn to Love Withdrawals. It is purely anecdotal, but I have noticed that over the years their are less and less posts in this form. Years ago a post would go up on page one and be on page 2 within 6 hours. Now the posts stay up for days, meaning, I surmise, there are less posters. I like to think that there are less posters because places like this have educated people that porn is not a toy, and its abuse can and does have adverse consequences, at least for a few.

The forum stopped accepting new members for like six months so that's why it's been so slow, it's back open to new accounts now but will probably take a while before we see posts being made at the same rate.

  14. Good you stopped in time. I did not have much issues first 6y of PMO but after 10y it got worse. Its like the abuse finally caught up with me.

Probably also becouse it escalated with time.

Now after 20+ years of PMO its really bad. I get brainfog from hell if i PMO. Cant think straight for two weeks. Still i did it anyway. The addiction is strong when you know how bad it makes you feel after and PMO anyway. Its like an alcoholic with bad liver or ulcur from drinking and not stopping even when they know it will kill em.

Actually you don't really know that, some people are quite good in hiding it. Also porn cause a lot of damages in relationship but it's not always visible right away.

I don't agree that porn can be likened to Sunday night football. Porn is an inherently evil practice, so there is no 'healthy in moderation' sort of practice with it. Yea, some people don't let it become as big of a personal problem as many on this website have, but it is still an issue.

People can be liars and great pretenders. Some people are so in-tune with their social identity-mask that their personal issues don't really show on the surface. I know people who are super cool and always say 'the right thing'. Those people would probably say they watch porn occasionally without issue if the room was talking about porn in a specific way (even if they are complete P addicts). For me, and probably others people on here, reading the room and fibbing on a regular basis to go along with the status quo are unnatural things for me and make me uncomfortable, even if it means being an outcast sometimes. For popular people, being an outcast is their #1 worst fear, so it takes priority over honest information exchange or anything else.

If someone says porn doesn't hurt them I assume they are either ignorant or lying. Its like saying worshiping the devil doesn't make you evil, obviously it does. Porn is bad, no ifs, ands, or buts.
