  1. I don't know about them other folks, some might embrace them because of rebellion and what not. But I'm not rebelling against mainstream. I couldn't care less what mainstream does. Personally I like pubic hair because I associate it with sexual maturity; consciously and unconsciously. I would argue it's in our genes. It's like a signal for us to know when person is sexually ready to reproduce, hence biologically wired to trigger arousal. Anyhow, it's not exactly something I can control that easy because it's deeper than just conscious choice I have made cos of some subjective reasons. I always found pubes more hot, even before I watched porn or even was conscious about social programming. Only later in life I actually sat down and decided to contemplate why it is so, what are the reasons. And I don't want to control it or change it, cos I don't care. If I would find clean shaven pubes more hot then I would go with it, no matter if it's artificial or not, but I don't. I don't think there is anything wrong with clean shaven, it's just not what I like. And I state the reasons why, that's all. If somebody do like it then great, who cares, we all have different sexual tastes, that's normal. I might be calling some particular trends unnatural and making some fun of them, but just because it's unnatural does not make it bad or wrong...

I mean, I find shaven legs hot tho. Not pubes, but I do legs. I would take shaven legs over hairy Italian legs any day. I would not dismiss a girl with super hairy legs cos I don't find it disgusting either, but it's not my ideal preference. Yes, shaving legs is funny artificially crated concept and I've been brainwashed to find it more hot too, just like any other male. But I don't care. It's not like it's a bad concept that's negatively impacting my life, so why bother changing it...

Hehe, I have a tattoo and I love it. But I see your point!

I forgot to mention that as far as I know, the bikini had a large impact in this whole development. Women started shaving the hair that shouldn't be seen by people. But, while porn might not be the root cause, it definitely propagated this.

Well, it's simply weird how quick trends change. People tend to forget how much they are shaped by their culture and by contemporary society. If I'm skeptical about something, I often ask myself questions like "What would that have been like 3000 years ago?" Of course the world of today is different from what it was in the past. But it's just changing so rapidly.

I came across this editorial and thought it would be helpful to share for the sake of discussion. What are your thoughts?

A groomed bikini area is not cleaner or healthier.

If you think your Brazilian bikini wax has hygienic benefits, think again. According to a study conducted by the journal JAMA Dermatology, 62 percent of women polled were under the impression that going bare down there was the clean, healthy route (a full 84 percent preferred some form of grooming). On the contrary, removing most or all of your pubic hair — whether by waxing, shaving, or using depilatory creams — is actually inviting dirt and bacteria into your genital area.

Gynaecologists — who once believed that the Brazilian-waxing trend stemmed from seeking sexual pleasure — were disturbed to learn that so many women are under the impression that hairlessness equals cleanliness, according to the New York Times. The study was conducted on a multiracial group of women aged 18 to 65, proving that the myth transcends both race and age (though young white women were most likely to go bare).

More than ever, doctors want women to know that hair is there for a very important reason: to prevent infection. Especially since they see girls as young as 13 waxing because of peer pressure, social media influence, and the proliferation of porn. Among adult women, partner preference and self-esteem also seem to play significant roles.

“Pubic hair offers a natural barrier to keep things clean, to decrease contact with viruses and bacteria, and to protect the tender skin of the area,” says Dr Vanessa Mackay, spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). “Pubic hair also helps to control the moisture of the area, which decreases the chances of yeast infections.”

According to the Times article, doctors have seen patients with serious health consequences — ranging from infected hair follicles and allergic reactions to abscesses and vulva/vaginal infections. In fact, for 3 percent of vaginal trauma-related emergency-room visits, grooming is the culprit. “If you shave your pubic hair, you are also putting yourself at a higher risk of contracting genital warts,” adds Dr Mackay. Yikes.

One health benefit of pubic hair removal? According to a paper published by the National Institutes of Health, the rise of Brazilian bikini waxes seems to have led to the decline of pubic lice, aka crabs.

If you absolutely must have no hair down there, laser hair removal — though arduous for such a large surface area — is probably the best route. According to WebMD, “Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.” Professionals urge would-be clients to do their research first and inquire about practitioners’ experience and the safety of the types of lasers they use.

Ultimately, Dr Jennifer Gunter of Kaiser Permanente Northern California, who was interviewed by the Times, understands she can’t stop women from getting on the Brazilian bandwagon — but she doesn’t want them to be under any false impressions. “If it is something you do for you and makes you feel better, awesome,” Dr Gunter said. “But don’t tell yourself it’s healthy or better from a medical standpoint.”

  4. I've always wondered how people remove their pubic hair!?!?!?! I've tried trimming with a pair of scissors and recently, an automatic hair-trimmer (intended use for hair on your head, lol I get creative like that) and shaving. Being a guy, I think ball hair is the worst... there's no way to tackle it. However penis hair.. and yes I mean penis hair like at the base, I feel like if I cut it, will it grow out more? Eventually will the hair reach my tip?!?!?! Will my privates transform into looking like that of a dog's, furry? OH GOD! Also, what's preferential to women? Shaved or unshaved or trimmed or is there even a culture around it? And yes... after cleaning out the pubic hair, the region looks much more appealing :D like the urge to fap becomes MUCH stronger for me haha.

I get people have their tastes, it's nice to experiment and find out. But I think pubic hair style is as important as eye color, hair color or any of the tangential elements you can focus on during your mating ritual. If you really connect with the person, I don't think you'd mind these things unless ofc it's like a cloud of pubic hair or it's got like crabs, yesterday's pizza, and weird stuff hanging out in there... we'd be good. And besides, some people may like that too :p

Shave. Of course. I can't speak for the older folk on here, but as a 20 year old I'd expect the girl to be completely shaven and she'd expect the same from me. You wouldn't want her catching a hair if she decides to toss the salad, so to speak...

It has little if anything to do with being 20. It has everything to do with being immersed in porn throughout a time when your brain was still developing. Most of the actors in porn are as bald as a coot, ergo, "I'd expect the girl to be completely shaven".

We're humans and humans grow hair on their genitals: that's basically the moral of the story. But that doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they want with their own bodies. Hair is natural and to some people (me) it's very sexy. I wouldn't care if I had sex with someone completely shaven or with a full bush. Men often shave their pubes because it makes the penis shaft look fuller (bigger) but I truly think that has to do with men having extra large penises being shown in porn. Also, I think the reason most men are uncomfortable with a women not being completely shaven is because it threatens their masculinity. Some men are intimidated if a women has hair, it makes them feel inferior for some odd reason. I personally think everybody should be free with body hair, and free for me means not ever completely shaving or not shaving at all. In the end, having pubic hair, a lot or a little or none at all, isn't weird for either men or women. Do what you want! Embrace your body in its entirety

why would a man be intimidated by a hairy woman? Maybe because it makes the woman look more mature and not like a little girl? That's a really embarassing reason.

Yeah. Hence why I said "for some odd reason"

  14. Aside from chest hair, legs and arms (I'm a gorilla!)... I shave everything else. Feel cleaner and better. I also think cleaning the wax out of your ears is important too so syringe it. Not a huge fan of beards either but each to their own I guess.

U must shave it. Maybe it look wild but not hygienic. I shave my pubes but since my streak begun I only clean the groin area. Earlier I used to shave the penis and balls too but restricting now a days.
After shaving it looks good & of course bacteria free.
