Abstaining from P is just the means, not the end

Man this journey is difficult. Today I realized that abstaining from PM is the medicine, not the goal. We're always searching for methods to fight urges and to not reset or relapse. But the truth is that the abstince is already the method to remove our symptoms. To overcome porn addiction we must not use porn anymore. This sounds rather obvious, and of course we should apply methods to avoid resets but this fact should be more in the foreground. This would make us realize that we indeed have a choice to stop. If we just think "oh what cheap tricks can I use to avoid resets in the future??" We make ourselves think we have no control. If we say "I'm going to abstain from PM to fix my ED, anxiety, depression etc" then we may even argue better with ourself when the urges come because we are more aware of why we are doing this.
On the other hand our addiction may then tell us "once is fine" which could lead to a reset. Yes, resets are ok but we would be better off if we take the medicine every day. Resets slow down the progress, stop or ultimatively reverse them.
Another benifit of this mindset is that we're doing this less because of unhealthy feelings of guilt but rather just to fix our symptoms.

What do you think about this?
