I heard somewhere that in the first part of recovery, the dopamine levels have to be reset back to normal levels. So I’m wondering if dopamine fasting speeds things up.

For me I’d say the main one is video gaming, I’ve noticed I’m very quickly becoming lazy when I start video gaming again. Other things that I could cut out to reduce dopamine from screens is to stop constantly checking social media, which I have already cut down to a minimum, checking phone for messages, listening to music, playing chess online, basically getting away from technology as much as possible, and being outside more, or doing chores/ reading a book learning a new language.

Im fed up of this addiction now, and one annoying thing is that it shrinks the brain, gives brain fog, makes us dumber etc, which makes sense to me looking back, when I started video gaming/ consuming porn, I started to struggle to concentrate at school. It has deffo affected my grades, and without sounding arrogant, I’d say I’m not the dumbest person around, if I really want to, I can learn new things, but I just lack motivation. So one extra motivation to giving up porn is I think to myself, imagine how smart you could be if you gave up porn, and the brain shrinkage healed, how much better i could do at work, extra bonuses etc.

What are your thoughts for dopamine fasting? I’d aim to do it at any time i possibly could tbf

from my experience: i did cut my internet at home and had only the offline mode on my computer (i don't use a smart phone for the internet). i felt like i was more present to what was around me.
not from my experience. i recommend the conversation of Andrew Huberman with Anna Lembke on the Huberman Lab Podcast as she is the one that spreads the worlds and actually deals with lots of addicts.

    youtube link:
it's even on Spotify and Apple Podcast if you prefer those!

Dopamine fasting is a good idea but don't drive yourself crazy. Give yourself some sort of allowance.
