Fasting

Discussion in 'Nutrition and Supplements' started by Deleted Account, Nov 11, 2020.

  1. Does anyone else do fasting? I have recently given up coffee and sugar and this is always a tremendous help in losing weight and getting healthy. I find a 30-40 hour water only fast is very helpful with anxiety and peace of mind. I feel tremendous peace when I wake up the morning after a water fast, though it can be difficult to sleep.

What are your other reasons for fasting ? I have found that it doesn't work in the long-run for fat-loss.

It's not sustainable to do such fasts without binging hard on days when your body simply didn't get enough fuel.

Mental clarity is another thing. I have noticed "a little" more mental acuity on Intermittent Fasting but nothing out of the ordinary that would make me stay on that kind of lifestyle. I feel way better on 5-6 meals a day.

  3. Fasting doesn't result in weight loss when I'm addicted to sugar as it leads to binges. I agree that it won't result in long term benefits if you have unhealthy eating habits on non-fasting days. There are numerous health studies showing the benefits of a digestive system "reset". In addition, I am typically more patient on those days. I still have to cook for and sit with my kids while they eat, which is an exercise in the virtue.

Typically what leads me back to unhealthy eating habits and quitting fasting is the shame and despair I feel after PMO. It is a vicious cycle.

Never heard of a digestive system "reset" to be honest. I might have to look into that.

As for the patience and peace of mind you experience, I say:

Don't change a winning strategy. If it works, it works :)

I tried fasting on water for three days, it also helps me to clear my body and put my thoughts in order. I think it's a very good thing.

  6. This is my fasting regime (with the logic):

    1. Daily - fast for 14 hrs to induce a daily bout of mild ketosis for improved insulin sensitivity.
    2. Weekly - one 24 fast to induce about 4 hrs of quality apoptosis a week to help my energy metabolism (remove inefficient mitochondria) and help with dead/faulty cell removal.

Works fine for me, now into this routine. I actually look forward to the 24 hr fast.

p.s. al;so have a very healthy sugar free diet. Without this it is a waste of time.
p.p.s. also supplement daily with omega 3s, turmeric, b12, vit C

  7. I’ve still been doing a sugar free diet for close to 2 months. I’ve removed caffeine completely and significantly reduced dairy. In addition I am fasting 2 days per week. I mostly fast on water but might have 1-2 pieces of bread in 30-40 hours. I’m doing the fasting in part for religious/spiritual reasons. But I have to say it has helped tremendously with my 90 day hard reboot and I have lost 25 pounds. I feel great and I’m thinner than I’ve been in many years.

Don’t do water fast if your goal is to lose fat. I regret my water fast. Just work out and don’t over eat. Fasting for women might be a good idea but for men... you could lose muscles and in places you don’t want.

  9. I’ve reached my goals and haven’t lost significant muscle mass. Fasting is in part for spirituality.

Hey, I have done fasting previously. There is also amazing literature present out there. But if your goal is to loose fat, I can help you with this. Well if you are a meat eater then go for it (longer water fasts), if you are a veg then boy take care of vitamin B12 levels (veg sources :- Paneer, rasogulla, milk).

I recommend you should have done complete nofap for at-least 2 months, or still in nofap with some relapses but not fully relapsed. One cannot and should not go in this cycle when body is craving for food i.e. after at-least, minimum 30 days of SEMEN-RETENTION. ----My exp., my advice.

I recommend alternate day fasting. Look it up.
If you still have the itch then go for longer fasts, but beware don't attempt that in next 3 months once done for 3 or more days. You may take veggies juice (spinach, tomato, amala, , etc which are with zero calories) during the fast.

I have done at least 3-4 water fasts around 5 days, 7 days and 11 days. It is one of the best experience. But I have also failed on some attempts. Don't force it when your body tells you no, I got fainted on a f-ing road. And definitely don't heavily exercise(cycle, cardio) in hot summer. Listen to your body while you are in a process of fasting. The joy (ketones) comes after day 3, you look life from new perspevtine.

Break fast with lemon juice, then veg juice, then milk, then some simple carbs(google sources), then whaterever you like.

These are the biggest fastings I have done till now in my life :

    - 18 days of juice fasting (just fruits and vegetables juice)
    - 17 days of water fasting (only water)
    - 2 days of dry fasting (no food, no juice, no water)

It helped my health a lot, but after the fastings you need to have an excellent food program and mental strenght in order to not gain again the lost pounds.

  12. 17 days water fast is impressive but seems dangerous. Did you work during that time? We’re you ok? How did you adjust to begin eating again?

I’m still doing 2 days per week water or sometimes bread fast. Keeping the weight off involves avoiding sugar and dairy, for me personally. I’m still down about 30 lbs from my high. Haven’t been exercising as much as I’d like to.

I was in a health care center specialised in fastings, so I was not working. My days were made of meditation, reading, watching TV and small walks. Even though it was hard mentally, I felt the positive aspects usually associated to fastings.

I broke the water fasting by taking vegetable and fruit juices for two days. Then it was small salads and small portions of solid fruits for three days. After it was nuts, then fish, then turkey, etc. Red meat and alcohol comes at the very end, after two weeks and more of food recovery.

    Congratulations for your good habits!

+1 for fasting. Material from Dr. Jason Fung helped me a good bit + autophagy is a big one too and fasting boosts it well.
