As modern young men tend to masturbate quite often, depression is striking. As a lot of reboot logs already stated: Abstaining from masturbation relieves depression symptoms; makes you feel more energetic and more attracted to the preferred sex. Now it's also scientifically proven that abstaining from masturbation for at least 7 days improves your life quality.

Recent studies show a connection between frequent masturbation and an increased activity in the Estrogen receptors in your brain. Estrogen, nicknamed the "woman's hormone", is healthy in a balanced state. But could be potentially harmful in higher doses, especially in (young) men. Causing depression, abdominal fat, decreased muscle mass and tiredness. Which in its own turn, increases Estrogen levels in the blood.

But you're able to turn this around. Abstaining from masturbation for at least 7 days increases your Testosterone level to a peak of 150%. Higher levels of Testosterone are connected to a higher well-being ( Less symptoms of depression, tiredness ), energy improvement, concentration, body fat reduction and a higher muscle mass.

So now, when you'll feel the urge to PMO again, remember this!

Hi, I am also struggling with low T and Varicocele. I have very low muscle mass and fat deposit in waist and thighs. I have been doing exercise, but couldn't gain muscle mass. So I am planning to improve my testosterone levels first and then do hardcore exercise. I think, overtraining also reduces t-levels. Maybe I was pushing too hard in the gym? I am also planning to do some level exwrcises from today.

My psychotherapist believes that first I was depressed and then I became addicted to pornography/masturbation, as a coping mechanism; same like drinking alcohol and smoking.

The theory is that first one needs to solve the underlying emotional issue(s) that triggered the depression; this will then remove the addictive behaviour since no more coping is required. If one only deals with the addiction itself, the brain will figure out a different coping mechanism, I.e. a new addiction, say compulsion to go for walks and overthink.

However, I agree that depression can be aggravated by the addiction (see alcoholism as well), but nevertheless the addiction started after depression was set in. Your point that quitting PM would alleviate depression symptoms is valid.
