Is relapse is inevitable ?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Oct 25, 2021.

  1. I was looking in nofap subreddit sometime back and there were a lot of people who relapsed after day 30, 90, and even after a whole year of retention. this makes me think, Is it possible to actually get freedom from this addiction ever?

  2. I am not sure you have the correct idea of what it means to be free, freedom is not total isolation from the captor, you can always choose to return to the slave master if you want. To successfully recover and stay free you must change the way you live, the way you think, everything has to be centered around anything but the problem. For me as a follower of Christ I need to center my life around him, spend my time in church, do community service, work on bettering myself, I must leave the old me behind and take on the new me, the old me likes to play video games all the time and drink every night after work which always leads to me relapsing, the new me will spend time exercising, staying later at work if needed to get things done, I will spend time outdoors in nature reading my bible and meeting new people. Do you see the difference between how I have been living and how I should be living? You stay away from pmo by adjusting your life away from things that lead to it, you will never be able to escape the temptation of it but you can change your direction and keep yourself busy with fulfilling things, and you must be willing to make sacrifices by getting rid of things or people that do not suit you and lead you into temptation, surround yourself with things that encourage you to change in the best way possible.

  3. it is practically impossible to all this change in days, it can be excused to relapse, don't you think. I think you just need to build a system to not be able to access the p for the net till you are able to get so busy, you don't have time to watch it but I still think it is not possible to ever go away from p

it is possible , if you get disgusted by it. It shouldn't turn you on , it should turn you off. because nothing in it is real , a fantasy of hell. Fake smiles, fake people , when I see it , I see misery and suffering not enjoyment.

Hate is different , kind of like how vegans see meat.

  7. How to achieve it ?

hard to say , I kept repeating the words "P industry promotes sex trafficking, it destroys people lives, there is nothing pleasurable in it , disgusts from me from inside, it doesn't align with my values , so I will not even think of it".

If you want do some research and you ll know how this industry has spoiled the lives of women (who act as P stars for nothing but money, unforced prostitution, they destroy their own lives )

  9. I get it but don't you think when we get urges our brain just wants pleasure instead of thinking about logic?

thats the whole point, you cant fight this with logic, its flawed. I have switched to feeling sad/guilt for all sex-trafficking victims this industry has caused, all the women who's lives have been destroyed. Fight it with emotion , sometimes disgust can override pleasure, and the other thing, is attach it to your IDENTITY. Its a powerful thing ,it can override your brain's pleasure area too

  11. Thanks:)

  12. It does not happen over night, but I truly believe that you need to fully change your lifestyle in order to combat this, then again I come from a Christian perspective so maybe most people are not willing to go to the extremes.

    Stay radical, brother. [IMG]

I struggle with this too, though. I would love to never relapse again. But I'm not sure if it's realistic to expect that. I guess I could be content if I relapsed once or twice a year... I'm not sure. [IMG]
