Relapse prevention fund/ideas

    I was thinking it would be good to prepare for the times when you have extra pressure or are just powerfully tempted.

    The first might be something bad happened at work, say even losing your job or something kind of big. You may have SOME time so maybe set aside some money to have a nice dinner out.

    The second is when it's HAPPENING, and you don't even have time to go out to dinner or no restaurants are open, you need something that's right where you are. Here are a few ideas that I can think of:

    • Food - something you really like that's a treat you can keep with you, I think of the more expensive natural food nutrition bars
    • Supplements - Sublingual stuff enters your system fast, maybe GABA or something - gotta do your research and keeps some on hand
    • Motivation - This is of course what the Nofap emergency page is, but I would take it further and use audio/video and possibly a clip of YOURSELF at a time when you're more motivated. Of course you have to make it a point to record yourself at those times and select the best part where it captures not just the words but that tone of voice
    So I think I'll start setting aside a $20.00 for those bad days, and put together a little kit for the second category - I think I may even have some of those GABA tabs still. The third I just have to remember to do and prepare a clip. Any other ideas?

    Note down this strategy called HALTS. What's this? Simple. These are the most common reasons why we PMO. This is the list:
    • Hungry
    • Angry
    • Lonely
    • Tired
    • Sick
    • Sad
    • Stressed
    • Scared
    • Shameful
    Now, you know yourself better. For every of this feelings, find a solution that excludes masturbating and porn, of course, and use that when you feel that way. And if there are more feelings, your can add them, but still call the strategy HALTS haha.

    I just posted HALT on another thread, although if the idea is to get specific "sick" doesn't make sense because there are different kinds of sick, stressed is also a general one that overlaps because any one of them causes stress of some kind. It also ends up being a huge list when you can distill it down to more basic principles, like there are opposites of the same thing: Hungry is one, but full I've found is another - too little and too much of anything. If we're talking about the second category of when the urge arises you also need to act fairly fast, a long ass list isn't going to help you act fast.

    Well bro, it helped me. I don't know about others, and I give advice that worked for me. Of course, I relapsed, cuz that's why I'm here, to fight 'till the end.

    Yeah it's good for when you have more time to think, I am talking specifically about when you need to act fast to counteract that strong urge. Like I said when you got a little time you can make plans, maybe keep it to HALT for fast acting situations without too much overthinking it and come back to look at it in more detail when you have the time.

    When it is something very fast, I don't know what to do. Is like, I am another man, you know. God help me, that's all I can say.

    Trial and error, that's why I think it's good to have something physical right there with you.

    Oh... Here's something that will require a small amount of know-how: They have these patches with a little bead that goes on your ear for acupuncture points, they actually use those in addiction clinics. One or some of those will trigger endorphins so it feels really good and you may be able to push that point and feel good enough without resorting to PMO. So you can either research it and buy online or go to an acupuncturist and get them put on, but they'll fall off after a while so probably best to look up a chart and learn where it goes exactly. Also you don't want to use it all the time.

    I think you can get used to them, or start to be addicted to them too haha.. that would be baaaad. Well, then.. it should be something to work for you, for me, for everyone in part, not in general. I mean, something that works only for me, and something that works only for you. Maybe a motivational audio? maybe.. a song? Play a song and remember your purpose, something like this.

    Well like I said there could be all sorts of different things, yes you can get used to them which is why you don't want to push it all the time, but have it right there for when you need it. Also I think at clinics they usually only put them on for when it's strong, I don't know if it's an inpatient or outpatient deal or both but probably when someone is in a treatment program, which is always just in the beginning of recovery but then you gotta live the rest of the time.
