I'm not expecting many replies to this but here's a brief story:

I've never cared about stray animals until I got a cat myself, in my neighborhood there's probably 30 cats around. Shortly after adopting my cat there was some food she didn't like so I decided might as well give it to the strays.

2 years later there's other people doing it too, most cats have been neutered, there's a couple of improvised shelters, there's food and water every week.

So significant changes were made due to taking one small step and I'm glad I took that step but I still can't help but feel this recurring feeling of impotence.

Some cats got sick and it really breaks my heart after all the effort.

So this thread has 2 purposes:
    • If you know there are stray animals where you live, I urge you to do something about it.
Guys, I believe being worried about animal lives in this journey is one of the keys to becoming a stronger individual. Protect the weak, bond with them and you'll have something to fight for, a small purpose perhaps. Make a difference.

    • I still feel impotent in regards to this matter because it's difficult to save every animal.
In fact, I feel impotent too often, things that I wish I could change but can't or don't know how or perhaps I'm just not strong enough. Not just in regards to stray animals, I often feel as though I can't change the world or that I'm not doing enough. I think this tells me I need to grow as an individual.

So guys, take that small step and help. It's worth it.

And if anyone has any similar stories (hopefully motivational ones) feel free to share them.

Also, do any of you feel the same way? Feeling like you can't change something or that you aren't doing enough, how do you cope with it?

    Peace.

  2. That sounds really positive Jest, sounds like it has evolved into an animal outreach project. I love animals and agree the world would be better if more people cared about and protected them. I adopted a cat a few years ago and she is the best thing in my life, she keeps me grounded and helps return me to the present moment. She's also hilarious and helps me keep perspective. Have you tried volunteering at a local shelter? I sometimes walk shelter dogs and socialise shelter cats, it calms them and helps them get adopted quicker.

Also, I frequently get upset about not being able to care for all animals and worry about them. I find not watching the news etc helps and instead i focus on what I can do in my community to help them instead.

Let me ask you one question
Suppose there are 4-5 dogs in front of your house
    You throw biscuits for them......
One of them is smallest and weakest.....and others don't let him eat
    What would you do

@Ceridwen I can relate! My cat is probably one of my best friends, it's amazing how we can bond with animals in such a way. I actually had not thought of doing volunteer work, that's a good idea, will most likely look into it. I've also decided that I'm going to constantly talk to people about adopting animals, there are many cats and dogs in shelters waiting to be adopted so I'm going to try and make this my recurring mission. Also, nice to see another cat lover around here.

@udit376 My friend, this happens often when I feed the cats in my neighborhood, I actually help the ones that aren't able to eat as much as the stronger ones by getting them farther away from the bunch and feeding them. Regardless though, most cats are friendly to each other thankfully and at times I simply leave the food and walk away, we don't want the animals to fight over the food since there's enough for everyone, but they do need to learn how to get food on their own.
