Vaping/Smoking and porn

I'm 60 years old and have been PMOing since I was around 10. I've been married for 27 years and have nearly destroyed my marriage, after promising to stop over and over and over again and then relapsing.

When I was in my 20s, I got heavily involved in cocaine and then crack. I would use coke and masturbate to porn for hours at a time. This went on for about a year. I finally hit bottom and went into an in-patient rehab. I struggled with coke and crack for several years after rehab.

When I met my wife I was 32 and I made a conscious decision to stop using cocaine and crack and have never used since we've been married. However, I started smoking when I was on cocaine and kept smoking even after I quit coke/crack. My wife is absolutely opposed to smoking and porn, so whenever I looked at porn, it was behind her back. I usually wanted to smoke when looking at porn and would do so whenever I could.

Several years ago I quit smoking after switching to vaping. I've watched porn with and without vaping and I vape with and without looking at porn.

I'm ready to completely quit porn, and I am committed to a reboot of at least 180 days, but I'm not ready to give up vaping. My wife thinks that vaping is a stand-in for crack and she's afraid I'm on a slippery slope that can lead back to crack. I think that it's too much for me to quit porn, masturbation, and vaping, and I want to continue to vape until I have at least the 180 days of NoFap rebooting.

I'm interested in other people's perspectives and thoughts.

  2. I quit smoking recently and it was vaping that did it. I used juices with nicotene at first, then zero nicotene, and now I don't really vape even.
Trick yourself into giving up! But I do think porn (and obviously drugs) are far worse than vaping. At the moment, vaping is seen by UK health authorities as something like 90% less harmful than smoking.
    You're doing ok.

Hey Goodluck, great that you're committing to this positive change. Does your wife know that you still watch porn? Or you've kept that secret? I think it makes sense not to quit them all at the same time because it could be crazy difficult, but also if you have associated porn with so strongly and then now associated it with vaping, whenever you do one you will feel like the other. So maybe it's the only way.

In terms of relationship stability, it sounds like your wife thinks the crack is the main worry, so I think you giving up the vape (even though yeah I don't think vaping is that bad, and doesn't gateway to crack as far as I've seen), would be super nice for her.

I honestly think you can quit it all simultaneously. It would be fucking hard, but just do a tonne of exercise, and worship that wife of yours, focus all that sexual energy onto her in a way she's never experienced.

    Just my thoughts

Thanks, Tankus. She knows that I was watching porn again, but I've stopped since December 15th, and have controls on my phone and laptop that she has the password to. On the one hand, I feel like it would be better for me to vape so I don't have to deal with all the stress at once, but on the other hand I wonder if it's just another sneaky form of denial.

I'm going to commit to abstaining from vaping.

1 addiction at a time man.

I say quit the porn first, since that's the addiction you really tend to hide.

It's not easy to quit any addiction so most definitely don't try quitting 2 at once. This isn't advice I want to give tbh but it's the only practical answer to this situation.

Have faith in yourself and recover. One step at a time. :)

  7. Do you smoke weed or tobacco?

Regardless of that in my case I stopped smoking weed the same day I stop porn because it went hand in hand and it was 10x more addictive.

I also stopped smoking tobacco that same day because tobacco made me anxious and was a trigger for weed and porn, and generally for my bad habits.

I also stopped coffee the same day. Because coffee made me very stressed and anxious, so that was leading me to cigarettes then to weed then to porn.

I'd do what you suggested and quit the porn first and then turn to quitting the vape. I feel like after a certain amount of time with no PMO you will feel a lot more motivated to quit the vape. I used to drink quite heavily and after 30 days of no PMO i got a huge burst of motivation to quit drinking too, and I did. One step at a time and wish you luck!
