Everyone is welcome to recommend some books, that he/she feels are beneficial in our journey. I'll be updating this list as oft as I could. The links to the books themselves in PDF are further down. 1. "The Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching" by St. Irenaeus Very condensed and spot on exposition of the greatest doctrines in the Bible. St. Irenaeus was a student of Polycarp, who in turn was a student of the Apostle John. 2. The Oration of Eusebius To complement the previous one. 3. "Treatise on the Love of God" by St. Francis de Sales Much motivation for fighting sin. 4. "Confessions" by St. Augustine Again, great for motivation. 5. The Apostolic Fathers (Ante-Nicene Fathers) vol. 1 of 10 The other Apostolic Fathers, maybe you can start with Justin Martyr 6. "Life of Christ" by Archbishop Fulton Sheen Refer to the next post. 7. "My Little Way" by Saint Therese of Lisieux 8. "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis 9. Normal Christian Life - Nee 10. The Great Divorce - Lewis 11. Excellent list. Please let me add a few of my favorites. "Life of Christ" by Archbishop Fulton Sheen; Much more than a history of Christ's life it is a beautiful explanation of The Savior's purpose and a verification of the Son of God. "My Little Way", by Saint Therese of Lisieux. An incredibly inspirational example of living a simple life in love for Christ "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis "Pray with the Heart" by Father Slavko Barbaric
I'll add a few, too. Normal Christian Life - Nee The Great Divorce - Lewis The Practice of the Presence of God - Lawrence Spirit of the Disciplines - Willard Live Loved Full Free - Jacobsen (devotional) There are so many great books. These are just a few that come to mind.
“The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas A Kempis “Heliotropium: Conformity of The Human Will to the Divine” by Fr. Jeremias Drexelius. “Jesus-Shock” by Peter Kreeft “Lift Up Your Heart” by Ven. Fulton J Sheen. “He and I” by Gabrielle Bossis “I Believe in Love” by Fr. Jean C. J. d’Elbée
I found "31 Days of Prayer" by Ruth and Warren Myers to be a big blessing. I went through it nearly 15 times. Youtube also has some good classic audio books. I listened to part of "The Pursuit of God" by AW Tozer on there.
You can never go wrong with C.S. Lewis or G.K. Chesterton! Last year I read one of the most impactful books to enter my library. It was Gene Edwards Vieth’s Spirituality of the Cross. I had struggling with a few things since Covid started and this book opened my eyes to so much and completely changed/improved my whole families understanding of our relationship with Christ.
Archbishop Fulton Sheen's book - "Life of Christ" is very insightful. Although it is laid out chronologically, it is not so much a history of Christ's time on earth as it is an explanation of His divine nature while in human form. Very inciteful and easy to read. Another good one is "Spiritual Combat" by Lorenzo Sculpoli. This is an ancient book but the modern translation is very easy to read and packed full of wisdom for fighting temptation and leading a devout life. Well worth the time.
Today I will add Christian books that are available for free if you have Amazon Prime. The Heart of Addiction: A Biblical Perspective. 4.5 stars WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT ADDICTION: Quitting Drugs, Drinking, Gambling, Porn and Smoking GOD’S WAY. 4 stars How Peter Quit porn. 5 stars How to Defeat the Giants in Your Life: Find Freedom from Pornography, Masturbation, and Sex-Related Addictions. 4.5 stars A Brand New You: The Ultimate Guide for Quitting Porn and Self-Transformation. 4.5 stars. This one is new to me, and I am not sure if there is much about Christianity in it, but it has a lot of great reviews. Invest in quitting porn. I estimate that the average porn user costs themselves $30,000 to $300,000 from job losses, career changes, and a total lack of direction because of the darkness of the addiction. Some users keep their finances good, but they have even worse costs in other ways. I will also add a book below that is not about quitting porn because I think that finding your purpose is one of the top five keys to quitting. The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?
